I have had a nightmare this past week. I am 16 weeks pregnant. On Thursday I was travelling (flying) to NYC for a chiro conference when my contact became sore. I switched to my glasses as soon as we got there but the eye pain and redness persisted. Within 24 hours my whole eye was practically swollen shut and tearing profusely and I couldn't leave the hotel room. On Saturday I got a "house call" from a MD who prescribed an anti-histamine drop. By Saturday night we could see a large milky cyst forming on my eye so I was taken to a special eye and ear ER in Manhattan and finally diagnosed with a severe corneal infection which was eating away my cornea!
Long story short, they needed to prescribe antibiotics to kill the infection before I perforated my cornea and lost all vision in that eye. They did confer with the obstetrical department to find a drop that could be used in pregnancy since most common antibiotics are contraindicated in pregnancy and the antibiotics are only being administrated "topically" and should have little system exposure.....BUT
Although my eye is finally starting to feel significantly better 9the culture came back and they are using the proper antibiotic), I am noticing telltale signs of antibiotic use: Nausea and the dreaded (dun dun DUN) yeast infection. So...while up and feeling itchy last night I thought I better come over here and see if anyone has some great advise as to how to counteract some of the crappy side effects of this nasty antibiotic habit being forced on me. So far I am using pro-biotics and eating more yogurt. Any other brilliant thoughts? My mind is not too clear lately and it is hard to type and look things uo with one eye closed.
Oh yeah, and today the doctor started me on a steroid drop too to minimize the inflamation to try to keep the scar tissue down as it heals so I will have minimal vision loss. How about topical steriods?
I'm a little stressy. Thanks!
