I finally did it!

I finally made soap! It's something I've wanted to do for a couple years and today I finally got my stuff together and did it!
I guess I had been a little freaked out about using the lye but it wasn't as scary as I'd feared and and I think it went well (won't know for a while while it cures I guess).

Anyway, I'm just proud of myself for finally crossing it off my to do list!

Good for you!! I still haven't tried myself but am working up my courage. What was the recipe you used?

I checked my batch today and it looks just like it's supposed to! What a relief! I was using Norma Coney's book The Complete Soapmaker for the basic how-tos but I didn't have the right amount of lye to do any of her recipes so I carefully did some math and used a chart on members.aol.com/oelaineo/sapchart.html this site and made up a recipe of lard, olive oil, lye and a teaspoon of tea tree oil. I think I will go ahead and rebatch it and add peppermint e.o too (and maybe some color). I'm so excited!
