I just attended the funeral of my Great Aunt Motsie. Wow - 96 years! What a long life!
The last 10 years she was ready to die. I felt bad that she lingered as long as she did.
Aunt Motsie was the oldest of 5 sisters. She was born in raised in Mary KY on a tabacco farm and she and most of her family located here to Detroit over 40 years ago. As a child we spent a lot of time with Aunt Motsie. She was a my favorite of the sisters - tough and nails - nobody messed with Aunt Motsie! But soft and maternal - always making wonderful treats and beautiful crafts.
The last time I saw Aunt Motsie was when dd was 2. She was nursing in the sling and Aunt Motsie told me I was a good mother and my children were very lucky to have me. I'll charish that day always.
I'm not really sad, she lived a good life and was ready for a new journey - but I will miss her and remember her foundly.
Thank you for listening.
