ppllleeeaaasse help with a girls name

Ok, I feel like this baby is gonna come any day now and we still have not decided on a girls name!! Ugh ... I want to just be 'ready' with everything so that I can let my body relax and go into labor. I feel like I am 'holding back' because we don't have a name picked out yet. Can I please get your advice?

We are a Christian family and have decided that our kids names must come from scriptures and have a nice meaning or be from a nice character. We don't like names that are really weird, but we don't want names that are really common! We LOVE the names for our first two children - Chloe and Gabriel. When we chose them they were NOT popular at all - now they are - heheh ... but they are still virtually unknown in our Christian 'community', which is really all we care about.

The real problem is that most girls names in the Bible are either very strange, or SO overused!!!

So ... We HAD a name picked out for our last child - Ariel. But now that we have a son named Gabriel, we started having second thoughts about the names being so similar, and being so close in age! So back to the drawing board. (Do you think Ariel is too close to Gabriel?) My husband suggested Neriah - which I thought sounded a bit too 'weird'. But after mulling it over for a while, I started to really like it. Then we did a search on the internet to see if there are any girls out there named Neriah, because it is a man's name in Scriptures (so is Ariel actually). We did find some girls and lots of Jewish boys ... but most results found were for a famous Playmate - Neriah.

Ugh .. do we care? My husband is now not too sure it is a good idea to name our daughter that, because of the playmate thing - but it doesn't really bother me much. My concern is more - 'is this name too weird sounding?'. How would you pronounce it if you saw the name written? Does it sound feminine to you?

I don't think anybody would get the playmate thing if you didn't tell them... and if they did, would you care what they thought?!

I think Neriah is a very pretty, and feminine sounding name.

I also think Neriah is pretty and I bet not too many people you know will have heard of the playmate. I sure haven't.

But I LOVE Miriam. Its one of my faves but Dh doesn't like it.

Don't sweat the playmate thing, our favorite girls' name (Jorja) is used by a few online porn stars. but we are fond of it because of other more upstanding Jorjas whom we know of.

When I saw Neriah to me I figured it would be pronounced rhyming with Mariah, like Mariah Carey. It does sound masculine to me (Jebediah, Zachariah).

How about Sarah? I'm of course thinking of all of my friend Jessica's sisters (Mary, Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel)

I like the names you have picked out, but if you like Neriah, and it speaks to you, stick with it.

We have the same problem right now, and I have just decided that if we don't have a name by the time the baby is born, so be it! I want to take my time with this one so that it feels absolutely right.

Anyway... I also love Neriah. i think it's beautiful and FWIW Mariah Carey did not spring to mind when I heard it. :LOL I also like Naomi quite a bit, and Rachel and Rebekka are good too.

We are using all biblical names for our first names too. Boys names we have lined up for the next 15 kids, LOL, but girls names, ugh. Lots harder. Just thought I'd share our list. We've decided on Leah for this one if she is a girl.

Hey everyone ... thank you so much for all of your replies! The name suggestions and advice were very much appreciated and helped soooo much.

WE HAVE FINALLY DECIDED!!

If it is a girl we will name her Anna Elisabeth
Anna means: Grace
Elisabeth means: Oath of God

If it is a boy we will name him Elijah Micheal
Elijah means: God the Lord, or the strong Lord
Michael means: who is like God?

We have kept Neriah as a choice for any future girls and have also decided to have an open mind for when the baby comes. If DH looks at our daughter and thinks she 'looks' like a Neriah, then we will go with Neriah Elisabeth. Right now we just realized that we didn't want any of our friends to take Anna, so that we couldn't use it. We are pretty much guaranteed that Neriah will still be around for a while!

So ... COME ON BABY ... we're ready!!!

I have a friend who just named her daughter Genesis. I think that is so pretty. Eve is pretty too. Hope is a good one, Faith, Charity, Joy, but those are pretty common. Hope you find the perfect name. I really believe names hold alot of meaning. My favorite though~~~~~~~~is Selah. It's so beautiful, I have a friend who just name dher daughte that. It's from the Psalms, and it means to pause, reflect, consider.
