Couple of ?'s about mama cloth

OK, so I am ready to convert to mama cloth so I have a few questions.....so I figured I come straight to the pros........sorry if this is a tad bit TMI

I just got AF just in time to try out some of the mama cloth I bought. My first two days are heavy and it doesn't seem like these are going to "cut" it so to speak as I went right thru. Gross, I know.......sorry.

Should I have gotten the AIO style for all of them? These have 3 layers of absorbancy but it doesn't seem to be enough. I was so bummed as I was looking forward to going totally cloth but if I cannot rely on them when I go out, I will have to use crackly paper stuff........yuck........now that I have worn this soft cloth...I don't want to.......help!

Also, what is the proper laundering techniques? Same as cd's?

TIA mamas!

i had to make my own, (old flannel blankets & old diapers)
because the ones in the store were *tiny* (i am bigger than average & have a pretty heavy flow for the first couple days) i am not a professional by any stretch, basically for me it is a rectangle, sewn around the sides, the flannel keeps it in place for me (i wear cotton undies) or you could sew some flaps with velcro/snaps if you wanted. i wash them with my cloth diapers, with vinegar & baking soda.

Keep those for the last couple days when it's lighter. For the first couple days, gladrags nighttime pad is good, as are Lizscloth, freshies, and I'll add more as I remember them.

Some pads come with multiple inserts you can vary throughout the week (gladrags, for example).

Some mamas use a preemie prefold or a doubler as a lay-in pad too. No need to get fancy if you don't want to.
