Costs of donating breastmilk

I would like to donate breastmilk to my not so local milk bank (it is located in British Columbia and I am located in Ontario). Unfortunately they cannot cover the shipping costs, which is understandable as they are a not for profit organization. The problem is that my current financial situation leaves a little to be desired, and I am not sure I could really afford to ship it very often if I had to pay for the shipping supplies and costs (keep in mind shipping in Canada is very very expensive). I was thinking of doing some kind of fundraiser to raise some money for shipping costs. Does anyone have any ideas? My inital thought was making breastfeeding advocacy T-shirts and canvas bags and sell them on my website (I have an online busniess selling cloth diapers) and mention the products at my LLL meetings. Has anyone ever done this kind of a small scale fundraiser? Does anyone have any other ideas? Thank you so much for all your help, I look forward to any replies.

Maybe you could find a mother in need locally and donate directly instead?

You could possibly look into making baby slings to raise the extra money. hope this helps

I'm looking into trying to find a mom locally, but don't really know where to start. Does anyone have any links or information about how to find a mom in Ontario Canada or anything?

I think slings would be a lot more work that I am prepared to do lol. I tired making one for myself and it didn't turn out very well.

thanks

there are moms all over who will pay for shipping, if you can't fiond one locally.... how about the local hospital's nicu? i dont know how old your baby is, they may too old, but it is worth a look

To my knowledge, milk for NICU babies has to come from either mom or a bank where is has been tested. it's worth checking into but they are picky about the milk and age of the baby the milk is produced for. Preemie milk is so different, it's jsut amazing how we can do that!

I am also interested in doing this? Does anyone have a link or know how to find out if there is a place in your area?

Thanks in advance
