Cancer and BF'ing

Just came accross the snippet in ePregnancy magazine's September 2004 issue and thought I would share:

"A compilation of 47 studies involving 150,000 women from 30 countries found that breastfeeding longer protects women agaist breast cancer. ... The findings showed that the amount of time a woman breastfeeds significantly lowers her risk. For each year of breastfeeding, breast cancer risk is reduced by 4.3%."

Pretty cool huh??

I heard that too. Good for me, seeing its a prevelent family problem. As I scrolled down to post I noticed the little breastfeeding icon or cartoony thing. How cute.

I'm beginning to consider the fact that I couldn't pump (11 years ago) It may have been mental for I was never interested in separation for more than an hour any way. I have a very involved Pappy this time who will want to be able to participate.

Any certian pump or trick to extracting?

That's a good question - my best advice honestly is to give it some time to get the hang of because it's not instantaneous. I had to go back to work 3 days a week when my youngest was 2 months old so I needed to pump - the first time I pumped I got like 8 ounces and was totally psyched, figured I was a natural. Then the next 10 times or so I got NOTHING. It was so frustrating. The thing that worked best for me was to have DS feed on one side and I pumped on the other - early morning feeding if possible - he would get my milk flowing and it worked great. After a few times of doing this I could pump without his help.
