ok, nursing these babies is officially UNfun now
they will not let me get away w/ doing one at a time
(unless one is asleep and misses it)
and they just fight and tussle
pull hair, pinch and slap
or get mad b/c the other is touching them
they keep each other awake (and crabby)
and it is starting to take ridiculously long
to nurse them to sleep when i KNOW they're beat

you mommas have any suggestions?
weaning is not an option
they are not even close, at 16 mos., to thinking about it

2 sorry things are rough right now! my guys decided to quit nursing to sleep for the most part which has been an interesting change... also not wanting to drift off when they're obviously exhausted. lately i've just been laying them down in their own beds for naps and for the first part of the night. (they wake up around 1 and get in bed with us to nurse.) jonah falls right asleep... micah will sometimes complain some and then sleep. if he's really unhappy (i don't like doing CIO) i put him in my mei tai carrier and just go about my housework. he usually drifts off in a matter of minutes.

i do nurse them individually sometimes and if the other one is complaining about it, i turn on a video for him to watch while i have the other guy in the rocking chair. he usually forgets and gets interested in the video until we're done. it's also been a really good way to introduce the idea of waiting... i just keep saying "your turn next!" with a big smile and though he might complain a little bit, it usually works out just fine. when it his finally his turn i make a big deal out of how good he was to wait for mama, lots of hugs, etc. so that he knows he did well.

if they bother each other while tandem nursing i say, "that's it, no more boo (that's what they call bf) if you can't nurse nicely!" and i unlatch them. usually five minutes of no "boo" is enough to give them the idea. then we try again, and if they persist, we quit altogether and that's it for the time being. i've found just a couple times of this routine has made the rules pretty clear.

anyway, that's what works for us. HTH and i hope things get better for ya.
