Homebirth Advocacy

I am writing a paper on homebirth for one of my college courses. I thought it would give me a way to research my
for my November homebirth while at the same time getting homework done. My professor is thrilled because midwifery is illegal here in Iowa. He says if the paper is good enough he is going to try to help me get it published in an effort to drum up some positive press for homebirth here in Iowa.

I have been poking through archives and reading birth stories and what not but I really would like to interview some of you so I am wondering if some of you would volunteer to answer some interview questions if I PM'ed them to you?

It would help me a lot. Let me know if you would be interested.

Thanks,

Wow this is so cool. I will finish my list tonight and get it to all of you in the morning. My prenatal went poorly today. Blood pressure a bit high and dropping blood, leucocytes, and protein, probably a UTI so I have been taking it easy today. At 32 weeks I want to be careful.

Hey at least I got a footrub out of the deal, I've never had an OB/GYN do that.

How many states is it illegal in? That just doesn't even make sense to me. That was how it all started, at home...without doctors. Confusing to me.

There I should have them all out now. Thank you so much for helping everyone.

I am not sure how many states it is illegal in, that is a good question.

I know there's a website somewhere that lists the legal status of midwifery by state. Couldn't find the one I saw before, but these two look promising:

State by State guide to midwifery in US ~ http://www.cfmidwifery.org/states/
Legal aspects of midwifery ~ http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/legal.html

Sorry I missed out!!! I would have loved to participate. Great that you have a reason to do all this homework. I think it's great If you need more info feel free to PM me. I'm also in a homebirth-unfriendly state now (MD) after homebirthing in Seattle. People do it in MD but they do it under wraps. Sad.
