Penicillin resistant GBS and damage to ur baby's immune system

Dear Raynelady,

I am studying in medical feild and me and my husbandwant to deliver as natural as we can. however it is really hard here in Japan where we live. We have fight with our midwife because she doesnt want to deliver me of i dont have GBS test. I never will!!! we are ready to deliver by ourselves at home, which is the safest way we believe. I just wander how a midwife can refuse to help to deliver if you choose not to do GBS test or take antibiotics during labor?!?!?! I hope you dont have this problem. i am sure you already took your decision but just remember antibiotics dont do anygood they will just make your baby vulnarable to antibiotic-resistant bacteria (superbacteria they become after you take antibiotics) and will not your baby's immune system develop in a proper healthy way. IT IS NOT JUST USELESS BUT VERY HARMFUL!!!I hope you have a great birth experience.

I tested neg with 1st 2 and pos with 3rd. Because of the protocol, I needed 2 doses of antibiotics but my labor was too fast, so they still had to do all the tests on dd after she was born. They did it while I was getting stitched, so there she was screaming in the isolette next to me while I was being stitched up. I think this is a possible reason for my mild hemorrhage. Since then, I have read some research and since we are having a hb this time, I wanted to really know and be responsible for my decision. From what I have read, the test is not really effective in showing gbs when labor actually occurs. Not only that, but IV abx in the mother is not a guarantee that your baby will not get ill, and it can cause the growth of superbacteria, specifically e coli in the baby. Treating the baby after birth has a lower chance of causing this, but doing the vaginal rinse during labor has been proven in several studies to have a similar results as abx without causing the superbacteria. I am not testing for this pregnancy because the test is so expensive and seemingly useless, but I will be treated with the vaginal rinse during labor.
