Tell me about WIC peer counselors

Has anyone ever been one? Could you take your baby with you? How much experience do you need? How often did you work? Was it rewarding? Anything else you can tell me?

They need a couple of peer counselors at our local HD, and I am considering doing this, but am not sure if they would accept me because my nursling is only 3 months old. I guess I should call and find out more, huh?

see above post. If i had it to do all over again, i would. knowing how many moms and babies i helped still gives me warm fuzzies. i just wouldnt go in wearing my rose-colored glasses this time.

Has anyone ever been one? Yes

Could you take your baby with you? Yes..until around baby's 1st Birthday

How much experience do you need? None really..just personal experience in Exclusively Breastfeeding then it was 3 months..not it's 6 months...

How often did you work? It was a part-time job..Very Flexible..I chose my own hours..

Was it rewarding? It was great helping other moms..but the paperwork was a pain in the a$$..it was probably 85% paperwork..

Anything else you can tell me? I'm actually in the process of getting a full-time job as a BFPC with Benefits (for the state..not the city which sucked)..and still able to take DD with me till the age of 1..crossing fingers that i get the job!

It wouldn't hurt..and I dont' see why they wouldn't let you take your baby..you would be promoting breastfeeding!!!
