OK so this may seem like a dumb question

I am from New Zealand. Circumscision just doesnt happen here unless of medical necessity. Both of my sons are intact and it never even occured to me that it would be any other way. Parents who for some bizarre reason want it done at birth will find it hard if not impossible to find a doc who will do it...anyway....I have been reading this forum quite a bit lately and one question comes up over and over in my mind...

Has any man ever sued the doctor or for that matter his parents for having it done at birth?
If not do you think it will ever happen?
I would have thought with the AAP guidelines saying it is not advisable blah blah that a man who sues for an unnessecary medical procedure would have a case, maybe not for people who were circed years ago but certainly for boys circed now under the current guidelines not to do it?
Thoughts? Comments? Is this not yet another reason that it shouldnt be done?

Yes,there are cases of men suing and some have won. There have been warnings in some medical associations as well telling doctors that being sued by an infant/child in the furture over circumcision is a possibility.
I definately support all people who want to sue over gential surgery;even adults who get duped into the surgery.

If you go to this website http://www.boystoo.com and look for info on the Flatt vs Kantek trial, there is the full transcript of that court case regarding informaed consent.

There was another very notable lawsuit of William Stowell ... but this case settled out of court for an undisclosed amount. Had it gone to court and had the amount been made public- I think that a lot more men would have known about it and made similar suits. William's Case was for a "normal" and consented for circumcision.

I have never heard of anyone who sued their parents, only the doctor or the hospital.

I spoke with a lawyer who does a lot of circumcision botch suits, and he says that when they settle out of court the hospital offers two numbers, one number is high, and comes with your silence, the other number is much lower- but would allow people to speak out about what that hospital did to their child. The difference is usually too much for people to turn their back on. This is why we never hear about things going wrong with circumcision- because just about everyone it happens to trades their story for money.
