Try plant dyes!
I used natural freeze-dried "instant" indigo vat, so its allready fermented and i dont need to do anything except for add it to warm water and try not to oxidize the vat.
You can also get concenterated extracts made from dyeplants, or make your own for quick use later when making tyedyes....
www.aurorasilk.com has some plant dye info..

Fiber reactive dyes are safe and long lasting. You might check your local craft store to see if they carry a tie-dye kit.
You can also purchase one online at Tie-dyed.com
Check out the forum too for tie-dye related questions.
Good luck and have fun!

natural/plant dyes are really difficult to use on cottons- it requires a complicated lengthy procedure.
natural dyes work best with animal fibers like silk & woolens.
i would imagine dharma trading company would be the best place to look for more info on dyes. www.dharmatrading.com
