breastmilk freezer storage

How long can breastmilk be safely stored in a home freezer in Medela baggies? I have heard conflicting information. Books, Medela and the internet all say different things. I am going to donate milk to another mama and want to be SURE that the milk is still good. Please help.

Leave a gap at the top but squeeze out the air. If you seal it to exactly the volume of the milk, the bag will burst. Store several baggies in a big gallon ziploc bag in the freezer to keep out freezer smells.

It depends on the type of freezer you have. If it is a regular freezer/fridge combo with the freezer being it's own unit, 3-6 months. If it is a deep freezer, up to a year.

I've heard anywhere from 4-6 months in a freezer that's separated from the rest of the fridge. I'd probably err closer to the 4 month side...
