We had a barbecue last saturday here in Pittsburgh for all chileans because our independence day is September 18th. So I planned the whole thing and didn't know many people, maybe 2 or 3 of the 100 people invited. I haven't been back to Chile since we moved here 2 years ago, so I had forgotten how nursing-friendly chileans are! I nursed everywhere, and all I got was compliments from EVERYONE, especially older women saying "Que bueno que das pecho, es lo mejor para ti y para el bebe" which means "I'm glad you're nursing, it's the best for you and baby" EVEN MEN APPROACHED ME and told me how here all they see is bottles and babies being formula fed and how great it is that I'm not, etc.. there was even an american girl (married to a chilean guy) who is 3 months pregnant and I invited her to LLL! I talked to her about breastfeeding, and she says she really wants to "try", so I told her I know she can do it, and to surround herself with support and gave her my number and told her we could get together and chat. So.. I miss my country, now! I miss nursing freely and everyone thinking and saying the most wonderful things.. that sure is the best kind of support!
Just wanted to share... this bittersweet story.. now I can't wait to go back to my country
