will they ever get it right?

Do you think any TV show will accurately protray a woman breastfeeding her infant for longer than a few episodes? What show? How long will we have to wait?

I know I would watch it what ever it was!

I wish!! Its rare its even mentioned, and not usually in a real positive way when it is.(You know, like those occassional eye-rolling mentions of those "weirdo's" who nurse their kids to age 3! LOL)

I hear bf mentioned on "Everybody Loves Raymond" occassionally, of course it is a comedy so it is used as a foil for laughs, but I have never seen them ridicule it or make it seem odd. In fact the mom on the show is portrayed as a mom of twins who bf them, so I think any mention of that is pretty cool!

There's an upcoming show on ABC called 'Lost' about a group of plane crash surviors on a mysterious island. One of the surviors is a very pregnant woman. I'm curious to see how the show's producers and writers handle the feeding situation once the baby is born.

Maybe it will be like Blue Lagoon where they kept trying to give the baby solid foods and he wouldn't eat them. Then as she was holding the crying baby up to her chest, the baby latched on.

Well, I think there was one scene where Raymond's mom was saying she didn't breastfeed Robert or Raymond because they are boys, or she did breastfeed them, but had to wean them early or, oh I can't remember now. LOL Anyway, it had something to do with them being boys.

Well, maybe when children are more than just curious plot devices, it could happen. I'm sure there must be some shows out there. But on a lot of shows, the kids aren't even mentioned for entire episodes.

When I first saw the ads for the "Lost" program I looked at dh and said, "That looks pretty interesting. AND she will HAVE to breastfeed. HA!"

Knowing the way these shows go, though, a shipment of Artificial infant milk will probably wash up on shore. *Sigh*

The character Lisa on Six Feet Under breastfed her daughter, Maia, past infancy. I'm pretty sure Maia was over a year when Lia died, and she had just pumped herself silly so as to go on an overnight visit at her sister's without the baby. Lisa said she would "pump and dump" when she was out and wanted to drink more than she thought advisable while breastfeeding and there were a number of other references to breastfeeding that were the most realistic I've seen in pop culture. That said, I don't consume a lot of media and Lisa was portrayed as the crunchy type, so it wasn't as if the writers and producers of the show were necessarily positioning breastfeeding as normative.

tHE MOM on Grounded For Life just found out she was preggo and they mentioned bfing. When Sean(the father) was afraid to tell his wife she was pg again he mentioned "changing diapers, midnight feedings, throwing the boob at them" something like that. I'm interested in how they'll handle nursing on the show.

I just remembered, ER showed Alex Kingston's character pumping for her dd. This was the season before last I think. And they showed Sandy doing the same thing last season. At least they're getting it right.

I was going to post about that too. I am going to watch the show just to see what will happen.....I am guessing they will feed the baby coconut milk .... I am hoping that she will breastfeed I mean what else would you do if you were stranded on an island right? Or they won't even show her feed the baby at all and we will just all assume that it was fed however we like.

Oh we like that show. It will be interesting to watch after she has the baby.

The island's secret mystery is that it's built on a formula/disposable diaper factory. I hope that they show BFing in a positive light before the baby is eaten by a dinosaur or something.

My husband said that they would probably have her lose the baby or it not survive before they ever showed her breastfeeding....but there have to be big bananna leaves that she can use to cover up with right because god forbid TV show breasts how they were actually meant to be used.

Since I'm curious, I'm now in the process of downloading the pilot episode.
