Where are you buying your yarn for Soakers?

Do you buy one type of yarn for day soakers and a heavier yarn for nighttime soaker?

Does plies make a difference? Do I buy 2 or 3 or 4 ply for soakers?

Oh, I am going to crochet a soaker, if there is a difference.
