UC Question

Hi to all you UC'ers here,

We are planning our second home water-birth in the spring and though we have a midwife, we are concerned she may not get here in time - she said that since ds came so quickly, the second one may come in 1/2 hour to 45 minutes!!

I'd like to know if any of you can recommend books and/or videos that would help me and dh prepare for what to do, and what things to have on hand if we end up doing this by ourselves. For some reason I can't remember a lot of how things happened the first time around

TIA!
Serena

This site is a great resource, and Laura Shanley (creator of the site and UC'er) is super-nice. I'm sure if you emailed her, she'd help you find whatever information you need.

45 mins to 1 hour? Good for you!

Congratulations and best wishes for an awesome birth!

What a great site!!

I'm sitting here this morning reading all the wonderful stories but just had to take a quick break to thank you for this link. I'm starting to hope our midwife doesn't make it in time!

The standard recommendation is Gregory White's "emergency childbirth". It's a dh fave since it's a manual that manages to make you feel more comfortable with the whole thing. There is some outdated advice but it's a good book/manual. HTH

some other great sites are:
www.freestone.org
www.birthlove.com

ALso Marilyn Moran has a "how-to" kind of book, though again it has a particular slant to it that I didn't totally like. But again, more ideas, and practical knowledge.

Also I think that many of the MW manuals like Ina May's and others have a section on emergency stuff.

good luck. Save my first baby, I had really really quick labors too!!
