I'm almost 4 weeks prego and I remember from the last pregnancy I first saw the Midwife 2 1/2 months into it, is that standard? How long did you wait?

Depends on your caregiver. Last time I started at 7 weeks or so b/c I was seeing doctors on the beginning and this particular one liked to do ultrasounds at each appointment. But this pg I won't see my midwife for a prenatal until around 12 weeks b/c since she's low-tech there's not much she can do before then, yk?

With my first i started at 10 weeks. With my second i started at 5 weeks. with this one the midwife said she doesn't want to see me until i am at least 12 weeks or farther along if i am comfortable with that.

We worked with dr's last time. My first apt was at 9 weeks. We are still in the process of interviewing midwives for this birth. The first one we talked to said that she would like to see us by about 10 weeks, more to get all the preliminary stuff out of the way. Her ideas, my ideas, what I want to have happen etc. She can't do much at 10 weeks, but its a good getting to know each other meeting.

Aaudreysmom: I guess it depends on the caregiver. My only advice is to book the appointment as soon as possible (even if she/he won't see you right away). I don't know how things are in your area, but I find mws are getting sooooo popular her that it is almost necessary to call them as soon as you get a +hpt. I don't know if that advice is of any use to you, but I just thought i'd throw in my 2 cents. Take care!

here if you dont call the m/w pretty much at exactly 4 weeks...you are S.O.L. they book up soooo fast. i called my m/w at cd29 and they fit me in because ive used her before.

call right away and they they may schedual your first apt for 7 or 8 weeks. but definately call right away to ensure you get your m/w

I called the midwife we want to use right away, but she won't see me until week 11. Thanks to all of you who answered my question as to why? Probably because a low intervention care provider doesn't have much to fiddle with for a newly pregnant mama...leave well enough alone!

Still, though, I keep wanting to take more pregnancy tests to make sure I am still pregnant. That 8 week ultrasound was very reassuring after a miscarriage the first time around.

Do you guys keep testing???

I admit to peeing on quite a few "sticks"... But for an entirely different reason!! This pregnancy caught me so off gaurd, I half think that I imagined the first, second, third and fourth faint 2nd pink line. Then I moved onto the clear blue easy digital test and lo and behold that sucker read "PREGNANT" before i could even set the thing down!! One 2 different occasions!!

There's no denying it.... I am definitely in the "family way"!

My midwife wants to see me next Thursday ( I'll be 7 weeks ).

With my first pregnancy I went and saw my doc straight away. With my second I my doc at 7 weeks and then decided to go with a midwife ( same one I'm using this time ) and saw her at 8 weeks.

Dasdamona- very funny about the imagined second line. I feel like I need to take another test, I 've been in the store 4 times now and looked at the tests. All 4 times I decided it was a waste of money and left. The sore boobs should be enough of a confirmation!

I will call my MW tomorrow and see what she wants to do.
