Another scary moment

So last week I posted about how my older ds pulled the dresser down, narrowly missing being crushed by it.

Tonight I was sitting on a chair in the living room, nursing ds2 (who is 2.5months). I had my head turned away from him, talking to my friend who was visiting. Dh was sitting at the table with ds1, finishing dinner. I hear dh yell to ds1, I turn my head, and ds1 is trying to jump onto the chair I am on, with a fork in his hand, pointed towards the baby's head. I quickly moved the baby away, but his head still got scratched by the fork and he started screaming. I was so freaked - he missed being impaled in the side of the head with the fork by a millisecond.

I am really getting worried about keeping these kids safe. It seems like we are having too many close calls around here.

Yikes, that is scary! How's the baby feeling?

Yikes! I hear you though, dd is constantly doing things that could harm ds. She of course has no intention of harming him - in fact, it's usually the opposite (i.e., too tight hugs). She's just a little clueless about how much space her body occupies, and what's safe vs. what's not safe to do around the baby. I pretty much have to watch her constantly!

The baby is fine. He screamed for a few minutes, and then calmed down. His head was scraped, but not bleeding.

Like a previous poster mentioned, ds was not in any way trying to hurt the baby, he just wasn't paying attention. We were very careful not to get really mad at ds, but used the opportunity to reinforce how important it is to not walk around with a fork.

I'm just feeling so vulnerable about keeping two kids safe at all time. It's so scary to not be able to have an eye on both of them at the same time every moment of the day.
