Week of September 27-who's next? - Page 9

Yeah, we're visiting some friends in Portland, OR this weekend (last of the big trips for me since it's 4 hrs) to basically take advantage of the no sales tax. DH finally decided on a digital camera (he's a tech geek) so we're getting that too so we can send oodles of pics to friends and family of the babe and even though I'm using cloth dipes I'm still going to Cosco to get some sposies/wipes and anything else that strikes me.
Our friend is loaning us their infant car seat too so we don't have to buy one-third child and we've borrowed all the infant car seats We have about 6 of the other types but no infant ones!
Since it's my b-day next week I may have to make a trip to the Saturday Market to buy myself something too
Have a great weekend everyone-and somebody have a baby!

ashlee, that is sooo strange... a few months ago I had a dream that a girlfriend of mine was pregnant along with me and when we had our babies, hers was a kitten! And she wanted to go to the doctor, but she was too embarrassed. hahah

the other night I had a dream about having my baby, but I can't even remember it anymore. I liked it very much though.

Oddly, as the time approaches, I find myself almost a little bit nervous about the natural childbirth. For some reason, I just got a little scared of the possibility of pain. I've been totally fine with it until now!

Thanks for the feedback on the birth space! Dh is outside right now wiring some outdoor speakers so we can groove out there. I spent some time out there yesterday hanging some windchimes as well.

Ann have fun in Portland! It's my favorite place! Dh and I hope to move to either Portland or Birlington when he's done in school and done w/ his internship.

Bachs RR is great!

Kittens huh

I went to a big consignment sale this morning, and the women there were insane! It was awful, pushing, shoving,
grabbing. I had to skeedadle lickity split.

Well just gotta send much love to all you mama's I love our threads...

Woohoo Mt. St. Helens is erupting!! This must be a good sign.... someone is going to give birth tonight, I just know it!

The gift registry thing is so goofy. I didn't even want to do it because it makes me feel greedy and presumptuous, but I did it anyway because everyone said it would be so helpful for them. Then it's like they took one look at the registry (I hope they at least took a look!) and decided I don't really know what I need.... Well, I'll find out tomorrow. Maybe I'm underestimating them. (Or "misunderestimating" them... hee hee :LOL Sorry, couldn't help myself...)

Have fun in Portland, Ann! Sometimes I wonder if the only reason people visit DH and me is to go tax-free shopping! :LOL We've got a few cute AP type stores, too. Check out Mother Nature's on SE 26th and Clinton. Slings, cloth diapers, organic baby clothes..... and a great mother/baby consignment store across the street. And then there's the Hannah Anderson in NW Portland.

My DH is nesting. He's on this kick where he's sick of our furnishings and the organization of our house. He thinks "we still live like college students" and it's time to get a more cohesive look/system going. So he's picked out all this stuff he wants at Ikea and wants to head up to Seattle next weekend and get it all.

First off, you can imagine how lame our furnishings must be if he thinks Ikea is a big improvement over our "college apartment" look. Second, Ikea is something like 3-4 hours away (and we'll have to pay the dreaded sales tax!). So do you all think it's "safe" to go on a long day-trip like that at what will then be exactly 38 weeks? If I go into labor, it's only a few hours back to Portland, but I suppose it could be a pretty excruciating few hours, depending on the situation....

Would you do it anyway? (Well, I know Ann would, since you are this weekend! )
lurking here...
nancy: oregonians don't have to pay sales tax in washington state for goods purchases. just show them oregon driver license and they'll waive that sales tax right off. and i'd say go to ikea if you're not too uncomfortable in the car yet. ask your midwife for her thoughts if you want another perspective.

sending all you october mamas peaceful birthing vibes and happy, healthy babies...

warmly,
claudia
mama to our little dude who will be four months old next week!

37 weeks

Nancy - I wouldn't do it, but that's just me. It's probably "safe" since you're a first time mom. I can't stand being in the car more than 20 minutes right now, but that's just me. I always get lots of BH in the car and I can't really get comfortable. You're right, it probably would be excrutiating to drive that far back during labor. I'd make dh go by himself. You never know how your labor is going to be - there's always a chance it could be quick and not too painful...here's hopin anyways I bet you'd be fine though.

Ashlee- That's so weird that you had that dream. I can't tell you how many times I've dreamed about birthing and nursing kittens, racoons, etc. It's so weird. I remember hearing somewhere what that meant, but I can't remember.

Ooo, ooo, can it be me??? I have a wedding tomorrow, and I'd rather not go. :LOL

I'm glad everyone liked my oyster dream I was actually laughing out loud when I woke up from it!

I bought some rescue remedy. I've never used it before. Does it really help? A couple of days ago when I really thought I was going into labour, I started feeling a little scared. Would rescue remedy help calm me? It would be so nice to find something that would sooth my nerves. I know everything is going to be fine with the birth, but I'm always so prone to stage fright, ya know?

Ha ha, I've had the kitten dream! One time I dreamt that I was trying to nurse the kitten and it bit me! That was way back when I was pregnant with my daughter and had never nursed before.

I think it would most likely be okay to go on the furniture shopping trip unless you thought it would wipe you out too much. Of course furniture can always wait, right?
I think we have that college furniture look too, by the way.

Oooh, that's exciting about Mt St Helen's! I haven't heard the news all day. It certainly sounds like a sign!

Woo-hoo!!!! It's October!!!!!!!

The more I hear about this kitten thing, the stranger it seems! I would never have imagined that I was not the only one!

Last night my partner and I had a nice roll in the sack, with lots of nipple loving and a good old orgasm, and afterwards I was having cramps and thought...maybe but no. Not yet, apparently. I'm still having some cramps periodically, but I don't think it's anything big.

But I almost don't want to go into labor this weekend. My midwives share call on the weekends with some other midwives who I haven't met yet. I hear they are wonderful though. But we also have great plans this weekend. hahah

I've had the kitten dream to - before I was pregnant! Then there was the baby elk dream I had a while back after seeing the Birthing From Within epidural video.... :LOL so weird. (The BFW video is animated, and it stars an elk family having a baby elk, and their doula is a mouse.)

So when do you know your BH are actually labor???

I had them all day yesterday, and now again for a few hours. Today there is more pressure going on than yesterday. I never had so many last time so now I don't know? Is it the regularity that determines it? I don't feel the wrap-around yet so I'm thinking it is more prelabor type stuff. I can't go by them getting closer in time bc with DS, they were 2 minutes apart my whole labor. My mw doubted I was really having productive labor when I talked to her at 3am or so with DS...ha! I was pushing 3.5 hours later.

In relation to the kitten dream....my baby recently turned into a red stuffed dog (?!). :LOL
post #172 of 206
I think it's the regularity. I don't know for sure. I didn't have them with Liam so I'm not sure.

Labor Signs

I was just reading the binder which I got from the hospital to tell if you're in labor.

#1 Is my bag of water leaking If yes call dr. or m/w
#2 Are my contractions occuring regularly (every 3 min, 5 min , 10 min)
#3 Are my contractions getting closer together?
#4 Are my contractions lasting longer than they did an hour ago (example at onset 30seconds now 45 seconds)
#5 Are my contractions getting stronger?
#6 Do my contractions feel stronger when I'm wlaking?
#7 Do My contractions continue when I lie down?

If you answered yes to most of these questions you may be in early labor. Continue to time your contractions. When the contractions are occuring every 4-6 minutes and alsting 45-60 seconds call dr/midwife.

If you answered no to most of the questions you may be in false labor.

In false labor the uterus i practicing contractions. You may feel your uterus tightening and have some discomfort. This is normal and many women experince false labor. False labor contractions may stop or get farhter apart when you change psoitions or walk. False labor may last several hours, however the contractions do not get stronger, longer or closer together.

Hope this helps!!

I don't get it either (the difference between BH and labor). I have BH contractions constantly, every couple minutes day and night, and have for about two weeks now. I asked my midwife when I'd know I was in labor, since I'm always having contractions, and she basically said, "Oh you'll know." So I guess I'll just know....

Not wanting the head to crown before I call the mw. I'm sitting here contracting right now....had a couple of sharp blows to the vagina...I think that's my child moving the *wrong* way! I had some this am and then it stopped and now more so I guess its just bh...but I don't want to be caught without an attendant. Homebirth was a big decision we aren't trying to go uc.

Lots of pelvic pressure!

I was so tired today...I didn't get the beads out and tomorrow I get my hair braided, my mw comes over to bring the aquadoula and then I've got to go 2hrs to the next city to get my crib b/c MIL doesn't think the baby is gonna come til she's ready and my crib sold! I had a breakdown in BRU and all the way home and when I got home on the phone with my mamas best friend! *sigh* Hold in your babies til mine come! I've had a couple of rough days this week...

Got a dipe last night.... http://www.righteousbaby.com/store/t...purpleleaf.jpg

I've gotta go get the towels and washcloths out of the dryer pack the washcloths in a bag and finish drying and pack up the receiving blankets. My last shower was Sunday, I feel like I'm behind on the washing thing. I enjoyed washing the receiving blankets today with a sample of Mountain Green Ultra Baby . I gotta get these dipes in the wash tonight! :

I'm wondering how long it will be til I crash....:nana:

Have a blessed weekend mamas! Bead mamas can't go yet!

Is there extra postage to CAN btw?

: yes, I know...I have been working on them since last week; but, I've been running like a chicken with my head cut off. My mnistry responsibilites haven't lightened, I have to commute a total of 2 hours to the church, I'm exhausted and then I had my homevisit to get ready for and get my hair done *again* for the pics and then found at my visit that I was ketonic and anemic b/c I am moving so much I don't eat. I've been trying to get the last minute things for me and the baby...nursing pads and toiletries and then I've ttrying to get this apartment ready for the crib (see saga above) and things were tense between me and dh because I need his help yet he *does* have to work. The crib saga and I needed to get the car seat done in case on the *way* to church I end up giving birth in the car (so I have supplies for emergency birth in back of my car too I gathered this week) and yesterday I was supposed to have a ministry meeting but I couldnt' get in touch with anyone and so I cancelled so I wouldn't commute and there wouldn't be anyone there. Mama is helping me with the crib situation and so I made calls and found it and today I was just exhausted again. Tomorrow...well, I told yall what I have to do tomorrow and then I have two services on Sunday. I'll *try* my best to get them done this weekend and out...in my spare time...

My photographer is going to mail me the CD of the pics. Dh didn't check the mail on the way in I don't think. I just took them a week ago, so I'll at least give him that or two.

Now, to see if I can figure out how to wash these diaper and get them in the wash tonight and bag up my receiving blankets and all my lines for the birth will be done.

*big sigh*

Letia, honey....take a deep breath! It's okay, I totally understand what it's like to be crazy busy (as we all do). The pics and beads can wait.

Okay, so my weird pregnancy thing today is that I'm itching all over, especially my hands and belly. OB appt today and she said it could be a sign of liver issues: cholestasis I think. anyways, if it doesn't go away by tomorrow i have to have blood work at a lab to check liver function. she said it goes away right after birth, so with a week left it's not a serious issue, but she did say they'd have to monitor my liver function if I have it. i hope it doesn't require any interventions on behalf of the baby....i'll have to do a google search on it.

honestly, I cannot believe the number of "issues" i've had with this pregnancy. i think this is my body's way of saying "this is the last time we do this!"

nancy, do take as much time off as you can, though I totally understand you wanting to save as much of your 12 weeks as possible. I so hate the US system of leave and my heart aches for all those mamas stuck in your situation. i, too, quit working about halfway through my pregnancy with dd and very much enjoyed the peace and laid back days I had before baby came. i wanted to have such days here, too but i'm still going strong. still, i'm doing things I want to do (getting my house in order) so it's not that bad.

mirthful: that must be rough having your mom on your case each day about "anything happening". I admit I have been tempted to call you many times, but figured you have your hands full right now and I'd probably only be asking the same thing. again I hope for your sake that labour starts soon, but confess I'm tickled at the idea we could be in there together. you know emily still talks about "AY-LE-LISS" and going to his house and playing with his toys, lol.

bigs hugs to all my mamas!!!

Thanks for understanding, Pig. The pics are a go, though. I just don't have them yet..at least I don't think. We took them until 10 last weekend. I just can't seem to sit down and stuff and fill out these card and address these envelopes.

Is my baby coming! Ow! My pelvis!

second wash on hemp serged dipes and receiving blankets folded with the exception of one on the line and in my bag labeled. I need to wash linen in the second bedroom for my mws aaaaaaaaaaaand clean this living room since one of them is coming tomorrow, finish inflating my birth ball and have it sit without sitting on it for *another* 24 hours and not stay up late according to my cb instructor.

*sigh*

Well I'm still here so it's still prelabor. :LOL Funny a lot of those things on the list up there didn't apply to me. My contractions were 60-90sec long 90-120sec apart my whole labor...I got no breaks. Basically I had 30-60 sec of no contraction in between each one...exhausting! And these do keep happening when laying down and feel abit stronger when walking....but they are irregular so I'm going with NOT the real thing!! Oh well at least I know things are getting ready and it's really better for the baby to have a few more days anyway. Though I really thought sometime this weekend once my plug went....we'll see I guess!!

Letia, I really wouldn't worry about the baby just slipping out, we could only be so lucky!! :LOL

Nancy -- Yeah, overall you will "just know". I'm just being paranoid since I'm not at home and the midwife will have to drive about 1 1/2hrs to my parents' and my labor is likely to be short.
