Slow leak, no CTX, bad cold . . . feeling discouraged

I need a little MDC love . . . Ds (3) has had a very bad head cold for several days and yesterday I came down with it. Felt terrible all night, knew I would ask dh to stay home today, but then when I woke up today my water was leaking (39.5 wks). Still a slow leak, but honestly, no contractions, altho *maybe* some BH that I can barely feel. Water's clear, at one point was a little pink, but no other signs.

Except that I'm EDGY and STRESSED. And ds is afraid of me (probably bc I'm wearing Depends!) and wouldn't nurse this morning -- probably the first time in his LIFE he has refused me!!!!! Wouldn't you know it?!?

Ugh. My last labor started with my water breaking and it was 48 hours of excruciating pain till ds was born, but THAT time I was having ctx from the outset -- this time nothing.

I didn't want this to happen this way. Guess that's why it did, huh? I'm going for acupuncture this afternoon, but that takes 24 hrs and m/w said, "well we'll try some other things before 24 hrs are up so we don't have to worry about antibiotics." HUH?!? I'm GBS negative and the birth center gave me longer than that!

I just feel tired. I SO want to be relaxed and open, but once that clock starts ticking (the m/w's, that is), I'm instantly out of control. Plus my throat hurts. It's supposed to be EASIER the second time!!!!

I'll take any encouragement anyone has to hand out!

Thanks, Mamas!

Be kind to yourself. Relax. You baby will be here soon. This does not mean another long labor by any means! You labor will start up (did you 80% of women whose water breaks are in labor by 12 hours?).
Eat well, rest and take lots of vitamin C.
It's really o.k.
Sending you love.

Thanks for that, loved. Means a lot coming from a homebirth midwife!

Trying to be patient and reciting my "this baby will come at the perfect time" mantra.

Antibiotics for a slow leak? I've never heard of such a thing. Sometimes leaks reseal themselves, anyway.

Go easy on yourself, mama. You're not in a race. Drink lots of nice, warm tea. Take a couple of hot baths. Read a good book or trashy mag. Try not to worry about your son, your house, antibiotics, and instead just focus on breathing and staying present. Everything will be okay; no one is pregnant forever! Rest up, because once your labor starts you'll need all your energy and strength to get that baby out.

sending your way for a happy, healthy birthing!

I agree - your leak may reseal. There was a thread where I posted my informed choice agreement on pre-labor rupture of membranes....

{{hugs}} take it easy, mama. Don't fret about what your mw says - perhaps you can talk to her more about it later. Love yourself!

oh, that baby will come soon! hang in there! Sending warm, loving thoughts your way....wish we could all show up with candles and food and some laughs and some dishwashing hands....oh, and some little cars for ds

we all love you, are thinking warmly of you and your new little one and the rest of your family....

I just wanted to third that this leak could very well reseal. Rest and take care of yourself. No two labors are ever the same. This isn't that labor (your previous one).

Remember, you're on no one's clock but your own and your baby's. Try to get as much rest as you can.

Thanks for the love, Mamas. Knew I'd get lots here!

Ctx started last night and continue to be irregular -- really feeling like a first timer here, since this is taking so long -- but I'm so grateful just for any sensation, and I have the intuition that slow and easy is what this baby needs.

Turns out m/w and I disagreed about whether or not I had a "slow leak" (she thought my bag was ruptured and could not/would not reseal), but hopefully that's a moot point now that I'm contracting and have lost the mucus plug, etc.

So hopefully today will be my baby's birthday! I will certainly come back and let you all know.

COME ON, BABY BREATHE!

Snuggling Indeed!

Well, after 35 hours of early labor, we finally got things rolling around 7:30 on Tuesday nite, and by 11:10 pm, my little Henry Cole had arrived!

So yes, you CAN have a 39-hour labor marathon with your second baby -- it was, in fact shorter than my first labor, as everyone had promised, but I don't think anyone expected it to be THAT long! But the 4 hours of active labor was very doable (albeit INTENSE) and my little squirmer ended up coming out in one big push once we found the right pushing position. He is DELIGHTFUL -- 7 lbs, 12 oz, 21.5 in -- and I can't believe how much we love him already!

When I'm able, I'll type up my homebirth story and post it, and I'll put a link here for anyone who's interested. It'll be a positive one, for sure!

Thanks again for the love and reassurance, Everyone. Believe it or not, your calm voices helped me stay the course there when I was starting to doubt, and bc I remained confident in my intuition that all was FINE, we ended up with no interventions or even nudgings (like herbs or castor oil or even nipple stim) and we just trusted little Henry come out when he was good and ready. And it was under an enormous, beautiful, full moon!

Blessings, All! (Gotta go change my signature! HOORAY!)
