Hey RufusBeans, which state does your friend live in? Family law is different from state to state. The best thing would be to type "family law, states name" in google. You will get the states gov page with an appropriate link if the search goes well. Or try a specific topic doing the same - "custody, states name" etc. until you get what you need. But do post back with the state and I'll also search. Good searching.

Not too sure about the quality of these links, but it's a start. Like the pp stated, the specifics will vary greatly depending on the state your friend is in.

Thank you all for the information. For the record, this case is in Iowa. He was just so lost because he didn't know what to do. I'm glad to know there is so much info out there.

Tell your friend to search out lawyers carefully. There might be a group that specilize in father's rights or the guy's divorce lawyer.
