Thanks for posting this! I've given it a quick skim-over, but have saved it & will definitely go back and read it more carefully later. This is something that I'm reading all I can on lately, and my choice is swaying heavily in line with the views expressed in this article.

Gbs Hb

Thanks for the reference! It had some good points which I've heard before and some I hadn't. I thought it was well researched. After having a urine culture Strep B+, I really hesitated to plan a hb. The small chance that the baby would contract sepsis, menengitis, or other disease is terrifying. I do know that once the baby shows signs of distress they can go downhill VERY quickly (less than one hour to death). It's so scary. I listened to my instincts this time, and hopefully they will be allright. I feel this 'infection' is out of control in my body because the mw I initially saw (in the traditional medical setting) did a very invasive vaginal exam. She was up and in there with all kinds of swabs etc. The NEXT DAY i had symptoms. YIKES! Well, now I'm treating it with ech., acidoph. and Cantheris 30c. I shall bee pollen next week if it isn't clearing up. I did run a course of abx early in pregnancy when we caught the 'infection' and it didn't help at ALL. huff. In NY midwives are NOT allowed to hb, and they are not allowed to prescribe abx (or anything else). She works closely with a couple of willing docs and CNMs to get the gear she does bring along. These include abx for baby if needed. She's never (in 23 yrs.) used them. She has a normal xfer rate to hospital and has, in the past 4 yrs. done 60+ hb's to GBS mamas. She has a diet plan (supplements) for GBS mamas that includes the above stuff as well as some other options (douches etc.) which she doesn't highly recommend. It's a concern for us, but I think with intuition and information we will all make the right decisions for our families/selves. THANKS AGAIN! Andy

I was a bit worried about GBS, had it with my first and had the iv antibiotics (at home, not a huge deal, but...). Tested + with the second, but decided on the vaginal wash protocol. Labour turned out to be way too short to even bother, and it wasn't a problem.

If there's another time, I'm not even going to test. We can spot the symptoms and get to a hospital within 10 minutes if it becomes necessary.

I haven't read the article yet but will later. I think I have decided to go ahead and test simply because of the hospital protocal for untested babies here. If I have to transfer.....

With my last two pregnancies I wa snegative but never worried about it. Now I have been concerned about what to do. Anything you can do to lessen the chances of testing positive? I am thirty weeks so I'll test in about six weeks.
