Do you have a will? We got a new one done this spring. It is so comforting to know that the kids will be in the "right" hands if hubby and I should die prematurely. I have been telling all the parents I know to get this done. So many folks think you can skip this. No way!

Thanks for that gentle kick in the butt. Dh and I REALLY need to get our will taken care of. Can it really be done withone of those CD-roms? Or do I need to pay $300/hour for a lawyer?

You can buy a will kit. As long as you take the time to have it properly notarized and witnessed it should be ok. Make more than one copy and give one to a trusted friend or family member outside the home.

A Will

We are so thank-ful that my dh's dad had his will in place when he passed away. It made that part of his dying so much easier on his wife and his family during that very sad part of our lives. We immediately went out and got our wills done. I hope they are written as well as my father-in-laws. The last thing I would want to impose on my survivors is a bunch of lawyers trying to figure out what to do with my estate.

Good for you!

We did ours early this year. I'm definitely relieved now knowing that DS (and future child) would go where we want them.

We did ours through a lawyer, who charged us $350 for the will, durable power of attorney, and living will for both of us.

Completed!

We HAD to do one as part of Michael's pre-deployment preparations. We've always known what we wanted but had never bothered to put it down on paper. It is reassuring to know that the kids will be provided for according to our wishes if anything were to happen to us.

I think a will is a great idea. DH and I have different ideas of who would get DD if, g-d forbid, something happened to us, but I mentioned to him again the other day who I think DD should be taken care of and he said fine.

So, now it's just the matter of getting it done.

We did ours on my FIL's computer. He has a program (QuickBooks Pro?)

Anyway...it was free. lol It is a great idea...especially once you have children. Ken's was pretty simple...mine has one exemption...My stepmom. Willow and any subsequent children we have will NEVER EVER be with that woman. EVER.

"But Jennifer, how do you REALLY feel?"

EVER!!!!!!!! lol

Anyone in Britain, this month you can get a will drawn up for free at participating solicitors - there is at least one in every town apparently! - as long as you leave a donation to charity in your will, recommended minimum amount £35 I think.

I was just thinking about this yesterday....we have got to get this done, too. Has anybody used a will 'kit' that they can share a link to (to purchase)?

I don't mind spending the money on a lawyer, but I'd rather take a look at a kit and see if it'll do what we would want without going to a lawyer, or at least help organize our thoughts so we know what to ask if/when we do finally get a lawyer, and be good enough in the meantime, kwim?

Also, do you need a different kit based on what state you're in?
