Had my first appt. today...

I went and saw my OB (he also delivered Maxi) and now I am not sure if I want to deliver at the birth center.

I really love my OB (who cant deliver at the BC unless he is covering for one of the midwives - long shot) and they just remodeled the maternity ward at the hospital which now has private labor/delivery/recovery rooms (well they were private before but now they are fancy) with private suites and tubs and the works which means I could have a water birth if I wanted. Along with all private post pardum rooms which they did not have before.

I dont want to have a baby and go home that night - which is policy for the birth center. I also dont want to create a whole new relationship with a care giver (midwife). But I want to be supported in not having medical intervention. I want to have the doula I already picked but she wont really do hospital deliveries with OBs. Only with midwives.

So that is my dilema.

Other than that the appt. went well -- they did another preg test and took about half my blood and did a pap and full exam.

Then like a total moron I completely broke down sobbing to my OB in the examining room. I feel so bad for him that he had to deal with me. Just a lot of stress at home and he asked me about it and I lost it.

Oh well. I get to hear the heart beat next time -- 4 weeks from tomorrow! Yay!

I'm sure it's not the first time a hormonal pregnant woman broke down in his office. Tough decision. Too bad the doula wouldn't reconsider. Sounds like she is what you need to be your advocate.
Glad things went so well!

Sounds like a good appointment I thought I was going to have to change doctors because my insurance at work is changing. Luckily, my doctor accepts my new insurance. I think it's pretty scary to switch when you've been through a whole pregnancy and birth with one doctor. Could you try to find a doula that would go to the hospital. See if you find someone else you really like. I've heard of some of the hospitals having the tubs. That seems as though they may be a bit more supportive of natural births.
