Edie Tangerine was born three weeks ago but thought I should mention her story here. Congratulations to everyone! What an exciting month November/December is with alot of amazing stories. here's ours:
The labour was long but a moving experience. My water broke at 3:00 in the morning Saturday with early labour beginning pretty much immediatly. Harder labour started around 8:00 Saturday night. Our midwife came by around 3:00 in the morning Sunday , checked me out and said she'll be back in three hours (was only 5 cm dialated). Those three hours were fun! Craig and Raina were with me with each contraction, rubbing then pressing on my back, breathing with me, bringing me water and frozen juice, telling me how great I was doing. The house was dark, lit only with candles in each room, very magical sense in the air.
Toby, our midwife came back at 7:00 in the morning, I was then 8.5 cm open so I hopped in the kiddie pool placed in our sunny living room. Between contractions I slept, during contractions I sang "ooohhhhh", or "god", or "baaabbbyyyy", or "ooooopen". Toby waited for me to feel natural urges to push. That didn't kick in so she checked me out on the couch and notice I need some rupture of membrane. Didn't hurt but once that was done I needed to take the biggest dump of my life!
We first practiced pushing on the toilet then pushed on the bed, and then when I got the hang of out, back in the pool where she was born within an hour.
She was alert and peaceful when she came out, midwives waited for our cord to stop pulsating (about 20 minutes) then Craigy cut it (the cord). Midwives (then there were two) took great care of us afterwards. They checked us out, bathed me and Edie, changed our bedding, fed us and tucked us in for our first nap together as a family. It was a glorious day.
We're still basking in the afterglow, figuring out her cues and loving every cute bit of her.
Blessings to you all,
Kathy, Craig, little Edie and Kitty!
