On tuesday Oct 5, 2004 Jasmine Noell Jackson arrived .
My wife gave birth to her at 3:55 pm .
She told me she started having labor pains at 5am that morning . She sent my oldest daughter to wake me up after 9am . She was experiencing stronger contractions by then (boy I was sleepy lol ) . So I had her some lay in the bed and then I let her be alone while I tended to the kids .
Well as the morning grew to a close she was progressing further . I called our doula but she was unavailable at the time . She finally rushed to be with us by 1pm that afternoon . She was a big help to us and my wife . She talked with her and helped her get through some very painfull contractions (I saw my wifes face ) . I was nervouse of course for her .
Fastforward to 2:30 pm in the afternoon and My wife is at the point where she feels it is time . It was also a good thing that the doula told me she thought it was time to go because we would be suprised as we went outside to the vans . As we walked out side as was near the van my wifes water broke and boy did contractions get strong for her . We had a 25 + min drive to the hospital and it was lunch time in the area we were headed . The ride was rough for my wife . I wish we could have had a homebirth .
Well we made it too the hospital and I had to rush her up to the birthing center area . I knew there was no way they would be able to intervene on her birth . When we arrived up stairs the head L&D nurse strapped on the EFM on her belly . I was not happy with it . So I gave them 20 mins to use it and then when my wife was ready to push on her own I took it off. I didn't care what they said because we told them we wanted very short monitoring .
The LD nurse came in trying to look at the read out and saw it was off lol . She could say nothing . I made sure they had our birthplan . I was watching them like a eagle as they were scamppering around my wife . After just 25 mins of arriving up there my wife gave birth to the baby . It was scary and amazing . The doula was shocked too .
Once born they clamped the cord to soon
. I was not happy with it and then took her to the warmer which was not what we wanted . The doula told me also that the ob-gyn doc also pulled on my wifes placenta
: .
We were able to avoid drugs and other interventions though . I hope in the future my wife will make the choice to use a stand alone birthing center here in Ohio or homebirth .
The baby is doing well though which we are thankfull for . She was 8 lbs 5 oz .
Just thought I'd tell you guys the great news
.
Now I have to gear up to fight the two appointments they want us to attend with the baby for follow up . They seem to think we are going to do the PKU , VIT K and Hep B shots .. NOT SO !! over my cold dead body will they have to do it !!!
