is diahrea (sp?) always runny? rash/allergy/poop questions

i hope someone has some experience and give me some ideas here....

dd has a bad diaper rash, she's pooping 3 times a day EVERY day (she's 16 months) and her bottom is red and has raised bumps and one spot an open sore...i dont leave her in the dipe long especially now since she's pooping about the same times everyday.

here's more info:
she's on high doses of iron drops for the past month and a half (no probs b4 with rashes though), we use cloth, havent changed the washing routine, only "new" foods she's eating is HoneyNut Cheerios my MIL keeps giving her everyday (the past week) and i'm trying yogurt/cheese (she only takes a quarter of a teaspoon usually --had dairy allergies as an infant..slowly trying to see if it affects her now)....

is it just a normal rash? or does it sound like allergies?
any ideas?

could that be it

Have you tried treating the rash for yeast? If she's had a diaper rash for a while and has open sores, it's very likely yeast is there now (especially with the red bumps). I would buy some over the counter clotrimizole (look in the yeast infection creams) and apply a thin layer to the rash at every diaper change. After she poops, be sure to clean the area well and dry it out thoroughly. Askdrsears.com has a good section on diaper rash. You may need to do a little bit of hydrocortisone (sp?) to get the inflammation under control-- I believe Dr. Sears talks about that.

About the allergies part.. that can be a really complicated subject. If you know she had dairy problems before, I would definitely cut out dairy completely for a few weeks and see if that helps. My 2 1/2 yr old dd has several allergy/intolerance stuff going on and she also had these same symptoms (frequent bowels and horrible diaper rash when she was younger).. Cutting gluten out of her diet helped the diarrhea immensely and she also has either a dairy allergy or severe intolerance.. now my 6 week old dd has a flat red rash from her vagina to her anus.. and I'm thinking about cutting out dairy (I'm already eating gluten free).. I know I have heard a "bull's eye" type rash around the anus is allergy, but not sure about the oval rash that my 6 week old has on her bum.. I thought maybe it was yeast but I treated it for that and it didn't seem to help. :

I could be wrong, but I think that Iron is supposed to constipate 'em. So, if she is on high doses and pooping frequently, I'd get it checked out.

OK, cut out the dairy again and cut out the honey nut cherrio's both can definetaly cause allergy problems. See if you can get her allergy tested before you try any more food trials, you dont want her tummy to get more hurt. Get some multi-strain acidophilus and give it to her, that will help.

Jessica-- about allergy testing. My dd is going to an allergist this month. What kind of testing should I ask for? Skin & rast? Anything else I should ask about?

nak~for high foods like egg, dairy and peanut I would RAST if you have seen reactions. All else you could SPT. Difference is SPT is immediately results RAST takes about a week. Check your options for meds too. Which dd?

For Zoe, my 2 1/2 yr old. I think I will probably do RAST and skip the other. Her reactions are purely gastrointestinal. They may not be IgE mediated, but I want to explore all possibilities.
