Dental: Widsom tooth erupting and uninsured!

Help! I can see about half of the top surface of the tooth. I've had a headache for three days now, blamed it on low barometric pressure, sinusitis and finally it occurred to me it could be the widsom tooth.

Last time I went to the dentist (last summer) I couldn't get the dentist to even tell me if he thought I would need them removed or if they would come in okay, he was very non-commital even when I explained that sometimes one edge of my bottom wisdom teeth would show up and then disappear again. This is the most any of the wisdom teeth have erupted. Now I'm uninsured and just don't know what to do. I'm a bit concerned because all four of my mom's wisdom teeth were impacted and required surgery that left her miserable and unable to eat for a week each time. My dad had two removed and the other two erupted successfully.

I can wait this out and hope for the best, but what can I do to help with the pain? I'm tired and my head hurts... over three days of this and my house is a mess and things are being neglected. What should I watch for in regards to infection etc? If I end up having to see a dentist I would have to find one willing to take $10/mo or something until I could pay it off. Egad.

TIA!

Ambisol or clove oil rubbed on the gum for pain. Wisdom teeth are not a big thing to worry about right away. You have plenty of time to worry about removing them if you want to have them removed.

If you are worried about infection there are several things you can rinse your mouth with:
Listerene, Salt water, High proof alcohol such as whiskey. I'm sure there are other options.

Also chamomile tea bags... just bite down on one over the area your tooth is erupting. I was without dental insurance for a long time and then too scared sh**less to go to the dentist. Three of my four wisdom teeth partially came through during that span of ten years. They occasionally gave me a headache and some jaw pain, but it usually only lasted a few days and subsided within a week. Finally saw a dentist last month and they were only somewhat concerned about them being partially erupted. (The main priority was to get my teeth and gums cleaned and replace old and chipping away amalgam fillings with composite fillings.) He said once we get those things done, then we can look into the wisdom teeth thing if they are not bothering me right now.

peaceful teething vibes to you...

warmly,
claudia
