Week of October 11th - Rise and Shine Ladies! - Page 9

Katie, sorry to hear about your stressful news. It's sooo good that you have such faith in your mw, though. Just try not to lose faith in yourself!

Momma2Liam, I'm unsure when to head to the hospital, too. We live 40 minutes away (working 10 minutes away.) I just know that even though I love my hospital, I want to put off getting there for as long as possible. It's hard when I have no clue what to expect. Doc says the standard, after contractions 5 minutes apart for an hour. He definitely said not to rush it, though - he said, "You don't want to be here until you absolutely need to." I like the excitement of it all!

Amelia, I've had that same fantasy. I said to dh just the other day, what if we didn't tell anyone things were happening and the baby just came when it was the two of us in the room. Poor guy looked a bit terrified.

When I went in for my appointment this week, the people at the concierge desk started to get up, like "Oh my, she's in labor, she needs help!" And I said, "No no, just here for an appointment..." Must be looking ready! :LOL

Here's a question for anyone who feels like talking diapers...What are you doing for wipes? I bought a whole bunch of cloth wipes and I'm trying to figure out the best way to use them. Wet them on the way to change? Use a squirt bottle? Buy a wipes warmer? Tea tree oil? Lavender? Nothing? I'd love any advice you have. The wipes warmer seems lovely to me, especially for the chilly winter heading our way, but I don't want to buy one if it's not really worth it. Thanks!

As far as wipes, here are a few options:
-I think it's nice to use a squirt bottle and just wet the wipe with it and use it-I leave the bottle on the heating vent to keep it a little warm This works well for just the pee changes.
-I do have a wipes warmer that I got as a gift so it's convenient-I only leave wipes in for a day at a time or I'm fearful or bacteria though others say they don't worry about it-I use a little tea tree and Dr bronners or other baby soap I have in it. Others use some oils, there are lots of recipes on the diapering board I think.
I try to use cloth wipes most of the time but I still have disposibles around for DH or if I'm just being lazy....

Who was it with DH (not dear) gone every night all week??? ME TOO! I could have written your post...gone every night this week until 8pm or later and he just told me next week will be the same AND he's gone Thurs/Fri (maybe :rollyeyes ) Aarrggg! And he has a nasty cold so when he does come home he's all whiney and "I'm tired"-try carrying around a 50lbs bowling ball between your legs and swollen ankles/toes!
OK, calming down
Ann

Isn't it funny that we spend the first 36 weeks or so of our pregnancy hoping not to find any red or pink on the tp, and the last 2-5 weeks praying we do?

As for wipes...I think wipes warmers are one of the greatest inventions ever! I can't imagine using cold wipes on my poor baby's bum. Ever grabbed a cold one to wipe yourself off??? Try it!! I keep my cloth wipes in the wipes warmer. Whenever I run out of wipes, I make a quick bit of solution right in the warmer. I bring it to the sink, put in a little baby soap, a little almond oil (or whatever oil), and fill it about halfway with warm water. Then I put in the wipes and they absorb it all up. That's it!

Contractions have really slowed down, which of course sucks. Last night was the first time I had them that I didn't start to get a panicky feeling...like I'm finally ready. Plus today the cleaning lady my mom gave me as a gift (seriously like the best gift EVER!!) came and finished today, so the house is soooo clean....perfect time now!!

Poor DH though...we think he has food poisoning. He started puking his guts out at like 6 this evening and fell asleep with his head on the rim... I got him to go to bed, he's been there since 7pm, I can hear him snoring away. So maybe tonight's really not the best night anyway!!

Thanks everyone. I am feeling a bit better after a little pep talk from dh. We went swimming, too, and I felt like the baby was a bit better positioned afterwards..a little more anterior. I've been talking to him/her, and explaining what he/she needs to do to be born.

Momadance- My mw doesn't get all hung up on due dates at all, but since I am VBACing she'd like to see me go sooner rather than later. I am 100% sure on my due date since I was charting my cycles. My mw doesn't have any kind of "protocol" with her overdue clients. She doesn't push her clients to do anything, but it was just depressing talking about potentially getting a NST (which would still be 2 weeks away), since that is what led to my induction/cesarean.

And sorry to hear about all your stresses, Momadance. That sucks that your dh is so busy, and I'm sorry to hear about his grandpa.

Well, nothing much happening here... Contractions haven't gotten any stronger or closer together. I threw myself into cleaning the house, so at least if I do go into labor soon, I won't have to birth amidst dust bunnies.

Did I mention my appointment on Monday? I went from 37 to 41 cm in one week. Looks like we've got a little piggy on the way... (insert fat baby smilie here)

Well, I'm still really irritable with DH, so hopefully this is a sign that I'm moving towards labor, and not just that he's really irritating.

MtnJenny - I bought a ton of cloth wipes. They are sooo soft, DH mentioned something about maybe we should be using them, too. (Um, No.) I bought some Baby Bits from http://kellyscloset.com/ that smell really yummy. They dissolve in water and you keep it in a squirt/spray bottle. (I know I've mentioned it before, but I love Kelly's closet. Free shipping!) Anyway, I don't plan to use a wipes warmer. In fact I'd never heard of one until I started frequenting the diaper forum. But who knows, maybe I'm missing out!

Momadance - Sorry to hear DH is overloaded and you're picking up the slack. I hope things ease up for both of you soon.

So it doesn't seem like we've heard from Meli today!! I hope she is in babymoon bliss

Aww shucks Nancy (they also need a fingersnap icon...or do they have one already :LOL).

About wipes...not too sure yet, I might make up a few at a time in an container or I was kinda thinking of preparing a bit in one of those foaming soap dispensers KWIM, that way it would be mostly water with a small amount of soap (bought some Dr. Bronners baby mild) and then I'd just probably use tap water (warm of course) to wet the cloth and wipe away the foam (and I'd probably just use that for poops)....not sure if that will work yet or not. I don't have a change table or designated area per se so I will probably use the bathroom anyway making it easy to use warm water but we'll see.

Katie, glad you are feeling better. I really seriously doubt you will be still pregnant in 2 weeks so try not to worry about that NST too much.

Amy- your poor Dh, that sounds terrible! I hope he feels better ASAP! I know, it's quite ironic the TP thing.

momadance - It must be stressful keeping everyone happy. Maybe that's an understatement... but it sounds like your dh really needs that right now and you're doing a great job staying positive! Hope he notices all the effort you're putting in!

Katie, goodness, what difficult news. But it sounds like you and your baby will definitely pull through - such a supportive husband and your mw has a lot of experience. You can do it!

At my last appt., the mw just laughed and laughed at my "basketball belly" (as everyone does). I'll post a yahoo pic. I'm pretty much all belly. She was surprised at how low the baby was, just about ready to pop out! Yes, I have to sit as though I'm doing the splits! Oh, and I haven't felt much movement the past few days either. Guess there just isn't much room left!

wanted to comment on so many posts but now totally lost with who wrote what...:
Lucysmama, so sorry to hear that ur baby has flipped...but im sure in a few days he will realize what to do and will sit just in his place.. sending you much "baby, sit in the right position" vibes...
everyone was making remarks that baby's movement is slower and i got scared...my baby is so so much crazier these days than before....yesterday i even had to hold my belly because he was making very strange movemements almost being horisontal!!! or so i felt...
Mandi, I thought so too, that there is no space left but his legs are just stretching out of my belly!!!!...dh thinks its funny... :
Sorry to hear so many have troubles with their dhs....i can't imagine myself being supportive now for anyone at all...you are so strong ladies!!! and most of you have another child to deal with....i feel myself so weak while reading about you....:....
Thia, I hope you don't have to go to work tomorrow...i wonder how u don't fall asleep on the desk!! "no work tomorrow" vibes for you......
Oakember, no actually thanx for starting this "chocolate almonds" trend... since i started eating them i'm in much better mood though the day!!!
Nancy and Meli!!!! It seems you are next....birth vibes...

38 Weeks today!!

Totally. I was sooo scared of seeing red or pink for almost all this pregnancy. I even avoided wearing red underwear because the red threads would come off and look like blood at first! Now, I totally can't wait to see pink!! I even turn on the light when I go pee in the middle of the night to make sure I don't miss any bloody show or anything :LOL

Regarding wipes, we use cloth ones, and I just wet them with warm water on my way to do a diaper change (and only for poopy ones).

40 weeks 2 days

Thanks for all the support mama's! I sorta felt like a heal after complaing, seeing HE'S the one with so much going on... He told me last night though he's off today (FRIDAY) and he and Miles are going on a field trip together! I feel bad he never gets to see the little fella! I guess I'll take a nap!! and clean this place! My sis gets in tonight from NYC to stay for a week...
So Reed, you may make your grand entrance whenever you feel like it

Now I join the ranks of those who are READY TO HAVE THEIR BABES!!! Watched tv in a supported squat last night and I am SORE! His butt is still up high, right under my ribs... Hopefully he'll "get the memo".

Funny thing my friends sis was a couple days overdue, so she went to her sister in laws house and jumped on her trampoline. Went into labor that night! Same story for her sister in law....

Oakember, I asked dh last night if choc.almonds sounded good to him, his eyes bugged out and he nodded vehenemently... so we'll be investing

Happy due date to me (again)
Happy due date to me (again)....
Well, yesterday I was pretty crampy and feeling yucky most of the day. It all ended when I drank half a glass of coke at dinner. Well, I drank more, but it only took that much for things to stop. I wonder if caffienne has something to do with stopping labor? Any input ladies? We then went and walked around farmers market for a while...wow, were my ligaments hurting! Nothing much over night, just very, very thirsty. I was up a lot getting drinks and you know what happens when you drink...So, I am pretty tired. BUT, trooper I am, here I am sitting at work. Sigh. A few people have said I look different, stomach and face, so they think I will go today. Wouldn't that be nice? Funny if I have been "waiting" to finish work. Stinkin work ethic lol. I am feeling a tad crampy this morning.
Carrie: I live about 2 minutes from the hospital. I am definitly planning on staying home as long as I can. I am keeping the emotional signposts in mind as well as possibly waiting for contrax to be down to about 3 min. Of course, the hospital has this lovely super deep bathtub, mine isn't so deep....so I guess we'll see how I am able to handle things at home.
Katie: Sorry to hear about baby's position. The swimming was a good idea and the talking too. I have been talking to mine for weeks about staying head down! I've also been squating, but the leaning back part I did not know, have to start doing that a little more.
Well, guess that is about it for now. Today is going to drag, drag, drag. Anyone have any ideas for dinner?

Caffeine stops labor?? ...i hope not..i drink tea every morning...and eat chocolate...and well love cocoa.....
Thia, happy due date to you... When we don't have time to cook dinner me and dh have smoothies: put raw eggs, banana, some yogurt and honey in the food processor and blend them all together...you can add nuts, cocoa, milk or whatever you like....we put 2 eggs and 1 banana (big) for a person....it really makes us full... all organic, raw and fresh and deliciuos ...
Me and dh spent the day cooking...just made some deliciuos shrimps tonight...but i was responsible for the spices and added too much cayenne pepper........it was soooooooo hot...we could hardly eat it.....

Just a quick note... Wish i had more time but NAK makes posting a looooong process for me.

to everyone suffering those "when's the baby comming" blues. Esp. Katie. Harrison bobbed up and down, in and out of my pelvis until finally engaging the day before he was born. Alias never engaged, even when i began my labour... I can totally empathize with your frustration.

Posted a couple more photos on Yahoo.

What's this about perhaps the man triggering labor, Amie? That sounds so interesting, where can I find more info on it - anyone know? Just a couple days ago I was talking about how noone knows what starts labor. It could be the baby, it could be the mom, who knows? He said, jokingly, it must be the man! Hmmm, maybe there's some truth to that?!

Oh, and Ekatherina, our baby was kicking around wildly between 38 and 40 weeks, way more than usual, just like what you're saying. Then just a few days ago everything got quiet, now it's just little nudges.

Somehow I just can't imagine myself on a trampoline right now - that's a really funny image!

Mmmmmmmmmm

Ekatherina: send some of that shrimp my way! I love shrimp and I love spicey foods. In fact, last night I had some wicked hot chicken strips (so much for the "spicey food kicks in labor" rumour). They were soooo yummy. Mmmmm, wish I had leftovers for lunch, but I was a piggy.
I hope the man's genes don't determine labor. My mil was 2 weeks "overdue" with both her boys.
Well, I did post about the caffienne thing on another board too and someone mentioned that caffienne can actually irritate the uterus, so perhaps it was something else in the coke. Or perhaps my body was just done with being crampy for that time.
I've had a productive morning here, have a huge stack of mail today though after having almost none the rest of the week. So, the afternoon will pass quickly, I hope. 4.5 hours to go. I swear though that they are going to throw a party or do something cool when I leave today. I feel like everyone is trying to kick me out lol. I e mailed my hr person to tell her that today was it and she e mailed back "it's about time!" I just might have to leave the building, then come back to see what is going on. Anyone remember the growing pains episode when the little girl thought that everyone had fun after she went to bed? Or am I dating myself here?
Hey, my brother has a trampoline...hehe. Can't say that I'd really feel like climbing up onto it even but it might be worth a try :LOL

Mandi- I will have to try to search out more info...can't remember where I came across it I will take a look for you.

Ekatherina- Glad that the choc. covered almonds perked up your mood I've been thinking about that sole box that I have left but want to save it.

Off to look at the new pics that Mirthfulmum posted!

Congrats to all of the mommies for their beautiful deliveries. Welcome new babies!

Thought we would have a little one two weeks ago.................................still nothing! About 10 days until the actual due date. First one they gave me was the 23rd. I guess we will see!

I hope all is going well with the newborns. Many breastfeeding vibes and restful nights being sent your way! For those of you still waiting for your new arrivial.........like me................hang in there! The funny thing is as soon as I pop out the baby, I will miss being pregnant!
Just saw something on the I'm Pregnant board that got me thinking....are any of you planning on giving your midwife a gift?? I hadn't even thought about it
post #180 of 268
hey everyone. hope you don't mind me sticking to the lower case letters. getting used to typing with one hand again. just wanted to check in.

so excited to hear that miles rocket made his big entrance too! awesome news mama! congrats!

everything is going great here. i'm sooooo happy and feeling so much love! i hope to write our story a bit later.

katie - i second and third the mw advise on those positions. my son was a stubborn posterior baby until the last week when i tried some of those positions that my doula suggested. it worked in our case any way. we tried the one where you get on your hands and knees and then put your head down to the floor and keep you butt up in the air. also, about babies changing presentation at the last minute. willow was right anterior persistantly for the last 3 months, but the night before she was born she switched to left anterior. isn't that odd? i guess she knew what was best!

for wipes, i cut up a bunch of old terry towels. they won't last long probably. i wanted to zig zag stitch the edges to keep them from fraying, but my junky old sewing machine doesn't want to co operate! ugh, need new sewing machine! i want a wipes warmer now!

i'll write more later. hope some more babies are being born as i write this. much love to you mamas! thanks for the congrats, i could feel all of your warm thoughts and wishes here. i'm also still wearing my beautiful beads. i made them up into a beautiful hemp anklet.

i'll write more later!!!!
