Bleahhh, 15mos. check up today...

Ds had his 15mos. check today. Nurse asked for shot record...I mentioned he was vaxxed until 6mos and then we decided not to do shots anymore, and that we had signed their form last time. She lets me know they need us to sign it EVERY TIME! The Refusal to Vaccinate Form (still working up the courage to refuse to sign their refusal, I'm scared to not sign it). Anyways, the dr (who is not our regular ped., no idea why she wasn't there, probably an emergency, but we really like our ped!) comes in and blah blah blah, I see he isn't up on his vaccinations? Me: yes, we decided not to do anymore while we research and look into them more (all while smiling politely).
Him: I've been doing this 30 years, and other than the problems with the DTP-which they got worked out and now it's safe-I've never seen any problems. And how were his reactions to the shots he did have?
Me: Fever, listless, restless, but sleepy.
Him: Well there are some I see here you could wait on, I would ask you to do the HIB though, that's a bad bacteria.
Me: We're still researching, we're not doing any right now.

And he said how last week he diagnosed a case of whooping cough, and that shots are so safe now, with ds doing so well with his previous shots, we should be fine doing them. Then mentioned that if we did decide to do his shots, we could schedule an appt. just for those with a nurse (oh goody, how easy!) and not wait until his 2 year check. I managed to just smile politely and say we had already decided. Dh was rolling his eyes and shaking his head behind the dr, gosh I almost laughed. But dang I just wanted our regular ped, we've been through this with her and she leaves us alone. They always tell the horror stories to try to convince us...gee, thanks, that really helps! Just had to vent. Ds is perfectly healthy, doing great. And shot free since his last set at 6mos.

Good for you mama! I wonder if that whooping cough he diagnosed was from a child that had already been vax'd against it. Since they work so well and all!

You know, I should have asked if that child had been vaccinated that had the whooping cough.
