What sorts of things are good for protecting the immune system against environmental toxins, specifically, poor air quality?

well anything that fights free-radicals would be good, like garlic, vit. e, red clover. also astragalus root helps build your deep immune system, so would be good to do too....

You can use herbs such as Astragalus, calendula, cleavers, dandelion, hyssop, oats, ribwort, yarrow, red clover, nettle, elder, burdock root, and echinacea which are all blood purifiers, and immune-enhancing herbs, shiitake mushrooms and garlic are wonderful as immuune enhancers. Green tea is also extremely beneficial. You can take anti-oxidants such as beta-carotene, selenium, zinc, and vits E & C. I also believe CoQ10 is good. HTH! ~Holly

As for spirulina, I love it! My dh hates it, but I guess it's an acquired taste. The nutritional properties are outstanding, it is an immediate food resource, is high in protein (60-70%), iron, amino acids, it protects the immune system, aids in lowering cholesterol, and helps in mineral absorption. just be sure to get a HIGH quality kind, I believe the bluer the better. There are a lot of poor quality spirulina products out there. I prefer the hawaiian spirulina, it is high quality (hence a bit more pricey),it tastes wonderful and you only have to use very little.

Thanks, bellasmum, for the additional info on spirulina. I'm working on an herbal program from steph's and your info--we have such poor air quality here, it's frightening.
