Boys and dolls

DS is 3yrs, 8months, and I've been thinking of making a Waldorf-style doll for him. I'm trying to move away from loud and/or plastic-ey toys into more imaginative and nurturing toys. DS is having trouble sleeping alone, too (we co-sleep, but we'd like DS to be able to sleep without having to be curled up with a parent for 10 hours) and I thought maybe a doll would be a good snuggler.

Before I invest the time, though, I was wondering if any of you have boys who are enjoying their dolls. I worry, too, that I've missed the "window" for DS to enjoy a doll and he's too old.

Thoughts?

My son is 2.6 years old and he loves his dolls. One is a stuff doll that is a boy someone gave him. He also has two Caillou stuff dolls he really likes right now. One he can give a bath and one he can take the clothes off so he can go potty hehe.
He puts them in the stroller and pushes them around. He also has a small shopping cart that he likes to push them around in. Last night he was reading to them and kissing and putting them to bed. So cute.

My son is 4/5 and when he was 3.5 and he got a new brother we bought him a baby doll. He was really into it for awhile though I am sad to say that "baby Charley" has moved to the bottom of his toy bin. He does like to sleep with a kermit the frog "doll" though.

Thanks, guys - that helps!

I did a wild and wacky thing to help me figure out this question - I asked DS - yeah, I don't know why I didn't think of that before . Anyway, I asked DS if he would like me to knit (quicker than a true Waldorf doll and less likely to upset me if it gets abandoned sooner rather than later) him a "boy" doll that he can snuggle with. He smiled and said that would be nice, so I guess I have my answer
