I'm dying the carpet in my dh's car. I know that RIT dye works but I'm wondering about vingar...will it help it set??

I know when you color egss you use vinegar in the color....

can I just add it to the solution??

Vinegar is acidic and 'roughs up' the fabric (or the egg), making the color take hold better.

I don't know about adding it to the solution - I've always just done a quick pre-rinse w/a vinegar solution.

Thanks for the tip.

Do you think straight vinegar?? or a solution with water??

I'm goingto pick up some scraps from a local junk yard and try some different things to see what works best. That way I can practice onjunk... I love that there are places taht recycle every piece of a car they can!

I usu put a dash (tblspn or so) in a bowl of water and soak for a minute. I think straight would be too harsh.

Definitely a great idea to test, esp if you can get a similar material. Good luck!
