Anyone take their own cloth pads to the hospital? If so, how many did you take? I was planning on having 12 heavy duty pads, but am wondering if the flow will be so much right after birth that 12 pads would not be enough. I have no idea how many of the disposables I went through last time.

I just used the same premie-sized prefolds that I put on baby. I think I had two dozen, for the both of us. Worked great for me, but I didn't bleed very heavily or for very long.

I just can't take the leap yet to cloth for myself. I guess I just haven't seen af enough in the past few years to do it!
I would take enough for in case you have a c/s or something and have to stay longer if you are opposed to disposable ones. I don't know how many are in those packs they give you at the hospital, 24 maybe, but I didn't use all of them when I had AJ and I was there 2.5 days after AJ was born.

It really will depend how long you're going to be in the hospital for. I think I brought a dozen or so of the nighttime ones (heavy duty) and another dozen of the regular ones....with lots of liners!
Something I thought of afterward was that you can always ask the hospital staff for prefold diapers, which are pretty thin and use them, too. Just ask for a few pair of those lovely stretchy underpants (if you can call them that) they have at the hospital, and just about anything will stay in place! The good thing about this, is you can just leave the diapers there when you go, and won't have to transport your used pads. Most nurses I'm sure would do what they could to help you out.
I had to go to the hospital after my second baby was born and while there, bled through my pad, pants, etc. They were great about giving me a diaper and the hospital undies....it worked really well.
