Mommy, what is that?
Mommy, why is it a construction site?
Mommy, why are they building a building?
Mommy, why did the people want a building?
Mommy, why do the people have a store?
Mommy, why do they sell things?
Mommy, why do that want to make money?
Mommy, why do they want to buy things?
Mommy, why do they need things for their houses?
Mommy, why do they need to take care of their houses and have clothes?
Mommy, why do they wear clothes?
Mommy, why do we have to be warm?
Mommy, why don't we want to be cold?
Mommy, why will being to cold make us unhealthy?
Mommy, why are our bodies meant to be warm?
Mommy, why do we have warm blood?
Mommy, does everything have warm blood?
Mommy, why do animals have cold blood?
Mommy, does our dog have cold blood?
Mommy, does our cat have cold blood?
Mommy, do I have cold blood?
Mommy, why am I a person?
Mommy, why are you a person?

Mommy, what is that?
Mommy, why is that a waterfall?

And so the day begins...

I swear I've had that conversation. Sometimes I tell ds my brain needs a rest. I've explained that your feet can get tired from too much walked and your brain can get tired from too much thinking. It worked for a bit

After awhile we just answer back: whywhywhwywhywhwywhwywhy...

It is kind of fun to get asked questions about things you haven't thought about in awhile. Why is the sky blue...let me think.

Sometimes children do not really want the answer to all their questions. A helpful and healthy way to re-direct them is to say: "Hmmm... I wonder...." Very often you'll get to hear some *amazing* reasonings coming out of their little mouths!

My 4 yr old is the same way. However my 6 yr old asks the same question over and over if the answer he gets is no and the answer he wants is yes :LOL So now I pretend I am deaf and keep answering him with What??? instead of no and eventually he gets the drift. The first time I did this I thought I was going to pee myself when he truly thought I had lost my mind when I kept asking him what? :LOL

This too shall pass and it is so great to see how their little minds work

This is absolutely true.

In my case, my son not only wants, but expects answers to his questions - every single blessed one of them!

At age three he started responding to "gee, honey, I don't know...what do you think?" with a barely restrained, shrieking, "Telllll Meeeeeee!"

And yesterday, while discussing a new feature at the aforementioned construction site (we pass it whenever we go into town) when I said I wasn't sure why the workers were hanging ropes from the new walls but that maybe we could ask Daddy when we got home, my beloved son responded:

"You don't know much, do you Mommy?"

All I can say is: :

I remember being that kid and being asked "Why do you ask why so much?"
One of my favorite adults who worked in the greenhouse where we lived used to work and answer all my why questions and never get tired of it

Oh yes, I get amazing responses. "Mommy, why is the sky blue?" "Hmmmmm, I'm not sure Margaret, what do you think?" "well, me and my sister Jane went apple picking and we saw a bug, then we got some apples and........" 10 minutes later, the story finally wraps up. "Oh, so that's why the sky is blue?" "No, that's why me and Jane made applesauce. Why is the sky blue Mommy?" What the..........????? Great imagination, attention span of a gnat. I bet she'll make a great fiction writer one day.........if she can remember where she left her computer.
