rate your birth practitioner and site

cross post with practitioner database - just trying to give the idea good exposure. mods - correct me if am committing a faux-pas.

the other day in a fit of disgust with the current obstetrical wasteland, i came up with an idea. i was thinking about creating an online zagat guide for birth related care - some place people could rate their hospita/bc and ob or midwife. the site could then help people chose better care and if powerful enough, apply a little consumer pressure on the providers of care. maybe a big wishful fantasy, but humor me ;-). well with a little help from my friend google, i found a site called "rateitall" that already has the whole thing set up (though not like i had in mind). but what do think about reviewing your site of birth and providers and then referring women/families like crazy to make this thing blow up??? check out the link below and let me know if i am deluded.

http://www.rateitall.com/default.aspx?WL=2
and then click on your area's (i know its limited but somewhere to start) doctors and medicine category. there are places to rate hospitals, ob/gyns, and mw under alt. medicine.

I haven't checked the link yet, but I think it's a great idea. If we have to live in a country with a for-profit medical system, then we might as well start acting like consumers instead of victims.

Think of all the research we put into buying a carseat or a new washer/dryer. Birth is the most important event of many women's lives, and yet we often just sign up with the first practioner available on our PPO list.

Just checked the site. Yeah, the areas are really limited. The closest thing to Portland is San Francisco. Any other options?

someone on a hb list i am on said she had seen a rate your birth professional site and is trying to locate it again. that would be ideal - a general site with ability to add any locale. if i wasn't so overscheduled i'd be all over it. and i totally agree with you re: the consumer aspect of the culture and using it to our advantage with birth.
