What about ETA?
I see it here and there, but it dosnt appear to be "estimated time of arrival" (which would make sense, since we are here talkin' babies)...Any ideas?

These abbreviations came about in the days prior to the internet. Then we had local bulletin board services (BBS) that were all alpha numeric and no graphics. There were information pages, posting sites and chat rooms. The chat rooms were by far the most popular and it was not unusual to have a dozen or more participants on line at one time. The conversation would move so fast it was difficult to read and keep up sometimes. At these times the best you could do was 1 or 2 line messages or you would miss half of the conversation or the conversation would move past your reply. You also had to be a fast and accurate typist. The abbreviations were so that you could get your say in and not get behind or lost in it''s meaning. We have come so far in such a short time!

The first time I saw TIA at the end of a message, I thought it was her name, Tia!

very close!

it means "Nursing at Keyboard" and people throw it in there to let you know they may have mispelled words, no caps, or a short message because they are NAK.

I'd say more, but I'm NAK!

Why does everyone who includes God in their post, leave the "o" out? G-d?
I have been wondering about that one for a while. :-)

I havent seen g-d used as an abbreviation for God but I know that GD is used for Gentle Discipline.

It's for respect. I *think* some religions frown upon His name being said aloud or written.

Interesting...

Thank you for the explanations of acronyms and such. I had an ideal of what dd and ds meant but wasn't sure. The others help too. I am new here and have posted several times already. I really like it and I finally feel at home, with others that are having the same issues that I am having. For once I am not alone.

Thank you.

what is OT?
OT means Off Topic

If you write in caps OT with a colon like this :

it looks like this:

T

and you use it when your are posting on a thread and you want to veer from the topic of the OP.........Original Poster Its a polite way of changing the topic for a minute
