Post your nesting craziness here

I'm interested in what everyone else is doing these days. My nesting has been out of control for about a month. Today, though, I had energy I haven't seen for awhile. Here is what I did with BOTH kids today--:

*cleaned the kitchen (not too messy to start with, though)
*swept the floors (ditto)
*4 loads of laundry + folding. Dh will put it away.
*Tidied up the entire house except for kids room--dh will do it tonight
*paid bills
*cleaned out mini-van
*took mini-van to car wash and washed it, vacuumed it (we're talking with the brush and spray thingies, I was quite a sight)
*went grocery shopping

Still to do:
*cook dinner
*knit

WOW! Great Job... that is impressive with 2 kids.

I was nesting like a madwoman (dh used the term banshee) last week, cleaned out our room, which was a disaster, there were rubbermaid bins of books and nicknacks still unpacked from when we painted 2years ago. Cleaned out my closet and another ginormous rubbermaid bin with clothes and sorted for donations. Finished cleaning ds #1's new room to be ready for dh to paint, I managed to keep up on all other housework and go the baby's clothes out and started sorting. Cleaned out my fridge, freezer, and 3 cupboards, plus got soup, chili and meatloaf in the freezer for when baby arrives. And I've gathered all but a few things on the list of supplies I need. That's just what my preggo brain remembers.

The last few days, I've felt like crap and done nothing. Except knit and a few loads of laundry. I hope the nesting urge comes back, cause I'm only 36weeks, and my house has deteriorated in just two days...

Send some nesting vibes this weay, please! All I've done is wash, fold, and organize the baby's clothes and dipes, buy all the homebirth supplies and wash/sanitize the linens, and straighten up a bit. I don't have the energy to vacuum- dh has to do that. Of course, in the afternoons when dd sometimes goes to my parents house and then at night after she goes to sleep, I'm working like a madwoman on stuff for my store so I'll be prepared for when the baby comes. I think I just don't have the time to nest.

i'm big on the nesting planning, short on actual execution. we bought NINE shelving units at ikea the other night in an attempt to make order of our closets and make room for baby clothes and other stuff where we need it. we still haven't unpacked some books from our move a year ago. the room i'm planning to labor and birth in is still full of boxes of catering stuff and other hoohaw. oh, and did i mention that my kitchen is a mess? aaagh!

things i have managed to do: baby laundry, a few loads a day; grocery shopping and (about to) cook dinner and clean the kitchen. i still have a lot of web work and menu making to do for clients, so that's taking up a lot of time that i would rather be spending going through my sock drawer and making neat stacks of onesies.

oh and speaking of this, i have a dorky question for the btdts: into how many categories do you separate baby clothes? i've got onesies of all sleeve categories, footed sleepers, those bag things with sleeves, gowns, pants, shirts, sweaters, booties, teeny socks...do you just separate by under and over? daytime and nighttime? i guess i'm used to separating clothing by tops and bottoms and baby clothes sort of escape that sort of categorization. hi, yes, i'm nuts.

Seriously, the piles of which you speak are alien to me...LOL. After the baby comes, you'll be excited if you actually fold the clothes before putting them on the baby. You'll be flabbergasted if they make it back to the drawer after they are folded....

or maybe it's just me!

Oh, I am an obsessive folder. I love folding clothes! My system for the new babe: four drawers- one for blankets, one for socks, bibs, hats, and burp cloths, one for 0-3m, and one for 3-6m. Within each clothing drawer I've got it seperated into one piece rompers, short sleeve tees and onesies, long sleeve tees and onesies, pants, sleep sacs, and sweaters/ cardigans. And of course, there's a system to the order everything goes in within each pile. Yes, I know, its a sickness. And the drawers will stay this way. Its one of those things I make time for. But the rest of my house looks like crap.

You should see the diaper drawers and baskets- its even worse. Same goes for dd's clothes and dipes.

Did I help, Jennifer? :LOL

I'm kind of a cleaner anyway since I just feel icky when there's clutter, so not much out of the ordinary in that sense. I am really trying to make sure that we are ready to bring the baby home at this point though. I finally got the carseat today, all the little clothes are in the drawers, my diapers are washed and ready to go, I have diaper ointment and baby soap, and I went out and bought little gowns for him to sleep in. Haven't set up the crib yet, but he'll be sleeping with us anyway. I would like to set up the crib for naps though. I also made a list of everything I'll need for the hospital. No point in packing before I go into labor because some of it (like my clothes, pj's, and toiletries) I will need before the time comes. It's become kind of a tradition for us to pack when I go into labor:LOL

My nesting takes various forms. There is the normal stuff around the house like cooking and cleaning and then there are the crazier things such as taking everyone for haircuts so that we can get family pictures taken after baby is born and donating our old car to our local public radio station to make room for the midwife to park behind our house. I still have to finish up my giant batch of diaper ointment I have brewing but it still doesn't smell quite done to me so I will let it wait a bit longer.

lol, isn't it funny how our mama priorities go sometimes?? I'm weird about stuff like that too. If one drawer is unorganized, I have to go through every drawer and fix them all.

you know, I have a baby outfit and blanket in the bag. My grandmother keeps asking if I'm all packed, and I keep thinking I need/use this stuff! Glad I'm not the only one thinking of packing at a later time.

Hmm..well, today was a nesting day for me...general de-cluttering of my bedroom mainly, because I know we have to start getting ready for the birth at home..and my home visit is in 2 weeks and I don't want the midwife to know i'm a huge slob!! I cleared out my room today, got the laundry down to do, including sheets...of course, I had a laundry disaster and I've had to re-do a load that somehow got covered in chocolate!! I don't even know where the chocolate came from. AT that point I had a pregnant girl break-down and my husband made me get in the hot tub for a while LOL I finally realized after dusting like everything and vacuuming that I was done for today so he's out getting me a sub sandwich because I couldn't face cooking. Tomorrow I need to build the new dresser and get the baby clothes organized and go to target and get a bunch of stuff and go to sam's club and get meat. I have been informed that is all I'll be allowed to do tomorrow!!

I understand though, because I'm an emotional basket case and Having major control freak issues when I can't get the things done that I want done..

I've just cleaned and cleaned..swept, mopped, cleaned the bathrooms, kitchen sinks, even the laundry room. That was all last week..the last few days I've been so tired I just want to sleep.

I"m driving dh nuts!

In the past few weeks, I've insisted we reorganise our front room, get rid of 2 couches, replace them with one (second hand, I just love craigslist.com!), bought a bigger organiser unit for the baby's diapers, (then dd potty trained yesterday in one day, so it looks like we won't need it LOL), a toybox for dress up clothes so I can have my big laundry basket back, an organiser for the girls' art supplies, desks for their computers, oh......the list goes on.

Every time dh thinks he's finished, something else turns up for him to assemble. He put together a toybox for me today for the front room, sighed with relief, then the postman arrived, with another package - a laundry organiser for the bathroom!! I saw his face, and unpacked it myself, but there are about five hundred pieces to assemble, and once I got down on the kitchen floor to start doing it myself, I sort of got stuck there, so he's got to take over.

All this, of course, is creating more mess as we sort through things to organise them. It will be better once it's all done - but I'm having steady contractions so I think he's worried that I'll have the baby and we'll be left with this half-finished nesting mess for the next 18 years....... :LOL :LOL :LOL
