What is Noro wool?

I don't know much about different types of wool yarn. Is it very soft? Kind of scratchy? Also, doe sit hold up well to a heavy peer? Anyone know?

It's a single-ply yarn, so it's going to be more likely to pill up on you. It's rather scratchy, IMO. It's a very pretty variegated yarn - it's got long color repeats, so it'd probably give a striping appearance on a soaker. I suppose it would hold up as well as any yarn to a heavy pee-r. It's a worsted weight or slightly heavier, so it'd be a good weight for nighttime/naps/car rides/etc.

Thank you! What kind of yarn should I look for that would be very soft? And less likely to pill?

Is it felted?
Noro felts REALLY well and gets very very soft.

I have a felted purse made from noro, i don't know if you can felt soakers or not....

It's not felted and it's a really pretty soaker so I am very tempted, but I want soft wool.

i have a soaker made from noro and i think it's soft.

my softest knitted item is a pair of longies made by jenny of tiny birds. it is a treslike (something like that) organic merino and it is INCREDIBLY soft. i have about 15 pieces of knitted wools in various wools from various wahms and this is BY FAR the softest. of course, it does get pillier than others but i use a wool shaver. jenny also lightly felted these longies and they could hold back a flood. perfect for overnight, imo.

Thanks Stephanie! How often does Tiny Birds stock? Has anyone tried a Noro wool soaker from Simply Sage? Was it soft? They are really pretty soakers.

Also, does anyone know what the organic wool from Fullbelly Farms feels like? I am tempted to buy a Knitwitz soaker knit from that.

(And I said I wasn't buying any more soakers this winter because it's a pain to change dipes and have to take the pants completely off to get the soaker off. I am loving soakers all of the sudden though. Wishy-washy.)

I have some MM pants from Full Belly farm organic yarn. Not as soft as merino but it has been softening up as she wears them and with wash and lanolizing. It is very yummy and does'nt pill as bad as merino.

Go the the Knitwitz soaker. I LOVE Meredith and she knits so nicely and is so nice!!

I think that Noro is really very soft (I haven't knit with it, but fondle it often in my LYS). It is definately "premium" yarn, made in Japan. The colorways are gorgeous, very unique-- I do not think you'd be disappointed in a soaker made from that. I know that someone else here had bought a soaker from Simply Sage from that wool and loved it and reported on it here, several months ago when everyone was talking about soakers rather than pants .

Full Belly Farm yarn-- I'm knitting with it right now. There are a few different kinds of yarn from them-- the regular yarn which is what most people seem to dye themselves is very light and luminous and airy and soft. I don't think you'd be disappointed in a soaker made from this either. For my heavy wetter, it's a bit thin for super wetness protection, but it performs really well for how light it is. They also have a sturdier natural brown which I have made several wool liners from because it's so water resistant.

Karla

Imho

It is a very nice yarn. I made a soaker with it PLUS a pair of pants (soaker was for sale pants for my son). They werer his favorite SNOW pants last year and wore really well. I think anything by Simply Sage would be stunning

The offwhite color by Full Belly Farms is a little light weight, imo, for a heavy wetter, but their other colors are much thicker and very beautiful. I am knitting the cutest dog weatrer out of the dark brown right now.

I knit with Noro and it is soft, but like any single ply, it tends to pill. But the colors are great. It is dyed before it is spun so the depth of color is amazing. Also due to this, they are longer strands of one color (most skeins have only a very small repeat if any) so you do end up with a stripey effect.

If you want soft, but again single ply so tends to pill, but so super soft. I would try some wool yarn from Danielle at www.mysticacreationyarns.com The most beautiful colors. So much softer than noro, imo.

noro makes lots of different types of yarn.. i used their silk garden once -melt- but my friend just bought some that she said was rough and scratchy. hehee -shrugs-

I just made some pants with NORO.... Liked the repeat pattern! BUT, a little more scratchy then I prefer. JMO

like someone above said, Noro makes many different yarns. I've used Noro Kuryeon for hats for all of my gusy when they were newborns, and it is cloud soft, IMO. The color is georgeous, too. That said, I wouldn't use it for a soaker/pants, becuase it's very loosely single plied, and it will pill like you wouldn't believe!!

Oh I agree, Meredith is THE sweetest mama! I am on another mama board with her, so I feel like I've been lucky enough to get to know her pretty well. She made my ds a newborn soaker and I loved it! I definitely need to snag a bigger soaker from her next time she stocks at hyena cart. She has one at the corner market right now(or at least she did last time I checked), that's beautiful, a fall colorway.

I have some soaker shorts made from the Noro Kureyon yarn and they are very pilly, but I still absolutely love them. They are pretty, soft enough for me (but the only other WAHM made soakers I have are Pickle Pants) and work very well. I've been happy with it....

But does anyone know if there is anything I can do about the pilly-ness of them?

Do you have a sweater shaver? I kept reading about how they make wool look new here so I bought one and now I love it! It made all my soakers look new again and it made my ubcpfs that were pilly much smoother.
