Nighttime weight soaker yarn?

I want to knit some longies for DS to wear at night but it seems that the worsted weight I've been working with isn't thick enough. Can anyone give me a recommendation on what and where to buy? Handpainted is always a bonus. TIA!

I"d say just about any bulky weight wool yarn would work great for night time. Something that knits up 4-4.5 stitches per inch on 8's or 9's. Just beware Icelandic like Reynolds Lopi, it's pretty scratchy. I"d probably go for merino or a merino blend for softness.

LTK 2-ply or Bartlett's 2-ply works great for us. LTK 2-ply is handpainted. www.littleturtleknits.com

I just got some bulky from www.handpaintedyarn.com, and let me say -it is bulky!!!! Their yarn is also super lanolized so its really soft and never leaks.

I mostly use their worsted merino and it works fine for nightime, they also have bulky merino, but its only on ebay.

not all "worsted weight" yarns are created equal What yarn are you used? For example, lion brand fisherman's wool is labelled as a worsted weight, but by NO stretch of the imagination is it really. It will knit up best as a dk weight, between 5 and 6 stitches per inch on size 5 or 6 needles.

I've always used a true worsted weight yarn for longies, knitted up between 4 and 4.5 stitches per inch on size 7 or 8, and I've never, ever had a problem with leaking/wicking at night. I doubt very much could penetrate these puppies, LOL!

Hvae you tried going down a few needle sizes with the yarn you've got? A so-so swatch yarn impression can turn to a fubulous one when it's at the right gauge for the yarn (regardless of what the ball band says, you need to find out the gauge that YOU like the yarn at best.)

Oh! I didn't know that! I thought there was some sort of industry standard. Ok, this changes everything (and possibly makes it more confusing! :LOL). I've been using Cascade 220 and getting 5 sts per inch on size 7's.

So if I change the needle size to get more sts per inch will that throw off the pattern I am using (HSY)? Or should I just refer to a completed pair for measurements and wing it? Does that make sense? heehee I like this little blah blah guy!
