So I've been using cloth as toilet paper for 2 months now.. - Page 2

Hi, I thought I would chime in with my experience. I have been using family cloths for about 8 months. I could not convince dh either. I feel so weird when I go out and have to use TP now. I also totally love using family cloths.

Here is what I do. I made mine using Quilter's Flannel/terry(like from a baby's hooded towel). Everyone will have a different preference. After trying many variations, this is my favorite. I did not have a serger before so I just sewed then turn and topstitched. I place them in all bathrooms in a little tote made by Sterile and it has a handle. After one is soiled, I put it in a uncovered wastebasket for this use only. On laundry day, I tip the wastebasket full of soiled family cloths into the laundry basket and wash w/ the towels. I wash about every 3 days or so and have never had a stink issue.
It is so easy and no extra work at all.

A good friend of mine and I were discussing this and I was asking for ideas about not freaking out our maids with my weird ways and she suggested that I just capitalize on my american weirdness and tell them that it's the hip hot thing to do and that *all* classy families do it! She's lived here a lot longer than I have so now I'm pumped and ready to go, I just have to find good cloth and baskets and we're off!

Woo hoo! Just had to resurrect this thread to say,

Today's the Day!

I'm going out to get some cloth and get started with this! I'm really excited (probably too excited) to make this change.

Plady, you are so my hero. I am b/c I can totally see the shocked look on the maids' faces. Remember when I gave birth there and I told you about how *shocked* they were at my adamant refusal to give dear babe any formula. They thought I was out of my freaking mind!! Like, who are these nutty Americans?

Okay, I've thougth of this before, too. No new ideas...just : -ing. I want a full report on this, however, the next time I see you.

You can always do a lidded plastic bucket with "No Tocar" taped on it.
