do you need to knit a pair of longies? a soaker? A baby sweater? How many yards, ozs? I am so confused. Thanks!

I know for a pair of longies for dd (a large) it took just over 2 skeins (135 yards each) of the bulky yarn from handpaintedyarn.com.
A soaker would probably have only taken 1. I have no idea using other yarns though.

The patterns will tell you though. Though I do hate it if a pattern only tell you the oz and not the yards too.

Yeah. I'm only good with yardage too. I just don't get the weight thing -- it seems very different if you're using worsted vs bulky.

Ime, 200 yards or a little more makes a medium soaker, and it is close to 400 yards for a medium pair of longies. Don't know about sweaters.

It really depends on the size of the item you're making. For soakers it generally takes 1 4oz skein of worsted weight yarn(any size soaker) For pants I can get a nb or small from one skein, but anything larger takes at least 2. Sweaters also vary by size. I made a 2T with about 8 oz of worsted wiehgt yarn, it was a raglan sweater knit in the round. HTH
