shoes for baby made out of good material?

I am new to trying to use good stuff in our house and we are slowly starting the change. I am looking for good shoes for my one year old (almost) who is just starting to walk. I want something that is not too easy for her to get off and that will keep her feet warm and that she can walk in. Suggestions? Thanks!

I second Robeez! My daughter just turned one and I got her some, and she loves them. She is just now trying to walk (taking a few steps and falling down) and they don't seem to hinder her one bit. She keeps asking for her shoes.

Robeez also just came out with booties, and they come up higher on the ankles and are lined with fleece.

Are there any non-leather ones?

I don't know about non-leather ones, but www.joshoes.com are nice.

I know of sources for non-leather children's shoes but I may have to show these types of shoes to a company that makes non-leather shoes for adults and see if they'll make me some. Those Robeez patterns are sooooo cute!

I've usually been reduced to making my own, since I don't want leather either. (I say "reduced to" because I don't sew well!) Occasionally we can find Carters or Gap shoes (intended as slippers I think) that are corduroy or fleece with elastic around the ankle. When I make my own, I use a heavy canvas for the soles and either canvas ro fleece for the uppers; I make up my own pattern from looking at other shoes.
