hurts when she pees (TMI)

Hi all - I have a dd, 3yo - a couple of moths ago she began complaining that it hurt whenever she went pee - I thought it might have been due to insufficient wiping - I had just had a baby - and before that, I was pretty good about making sure all potty "tasks" were taken care of - so we stepped up the wiping procedure (or atleast included it!) It went away for a bit and then came back. I thought she might have had a UTI (I was VERY prone to them as a kid). But, her urine came back clear. The Dr said she did look a little irritated and that it was most likely due to the whole wiping thing (or lack of it!). Well, she and I have been really good about wiping down there, not rough or anything - just a godd dab, dab, dab sometimes with water too (just to be sure).

Tonight the poor baby was crying as she went pee - she said it hurt! I took a peek and it looks really red/pink and raw- OUCH ...Any ideas or advice???

Yeast? You could try a baking soda soak in the tub. And maybe overnight, you can put some diaper cream with a few drops of lavender essential oil to soothe and help it heal.

well, I thought yeast too...but there is no discharge and no itching (I would guess a kiddo yeast would present itself similiar to an adult yeast, yes?

Lavender oil to soothe? Didn't know that!

My children get yeast rashes in the diaper area that don't have discharge. I've never seen them scratching either. Hrmmm. Lavender is anti-fungal so it can combat a yeast rash. The diaper cream would soothe the area. If it's not yeast, the lavender won't harm. This is just on her external labia, right? If it's internal, I would just stick to the baking soda soak. Do you have some sort of squirt bottle? She could wash with water after going to the bathroom and then pat dry with toilet paper.

Do you put bubble bath or soap in her bath water? That always makes me hurt when I pee... It could also be a reaction to laundry detergent or fabric softener.

I second the bubble bath avoidance idea. I have a friend whose daughter gets yeast infections from it.

I had the same problem, you can read about it here and what solved the problem for us.

Thanks ladies - those are all great ideas! I think I will have her use cloth wipes on her tush too - I mean I have them from when she was in diapers so I might as well put them to good use! I'm also gonna give her a baking soda soak - re: lavender...how much do you mix in with the cream??? (like a ratio of whathat??)
Thanks again!

Oh, yes. DD and I have the saem troubles -- it was really bad when I brought ds home too. We switched to cloth as well, and sometimes I put balmex on her, as a healing/barrier ointment. It works great for her. Also when she washes in the tub, it is just w/ a washcloth and water.
