Lochia duration for multiparas

Thread Starter
I gave birth to my second child 21 days ago, and my lochia seems to be just about over (I have barely had any discharge the last 5 days or so). With my first child, my lochia was quite heavy till it ended at about 6 weeks and a few days postpartum.

Anyway, I just want to know if this is a trend with most women (after their second and consecutive babies)?

NB: With my first child, unfortunately I was induced (I was also depressed after because of this). With my second baby, we had an unassisted water birth which was so calm and peaceful. Could the reduced flow have something to do with the fact that there was no trauma for me during this birth?

Thanks in advance,
Siana.

I dunno about the second part of your question, but I bled for about three weeks with my second, and had bled for about 4 with my first. My midwives had given me a really lovely tea for afterward that helped with the flow, also.

I bled for about 4 weeks with both kids. I'm not sure about the last part of your question, I had hospital births with both kids.

#1 I bled maybe 3 weeks, birth center water birth
#2 I bled again maybe 3, birth center water birth
#3 I bled for 7 weeks but I experienced shoulder dystocia. That was a home birth.

I've always bled (counting all colored discharge) for 5-6 weeks postpartum. I haven't noticed a difference with the different births (my first was "normal" but traumatic and my physical recovery difficult, the last two were unassisted and unmanaged.) I do wonder if the length of my bleeding has anything to do with the fact that I start having intercourse again earlier than the norm.

With #1, I bled for seven weeks
With #2, (a very gentle unmedicated birth) I bled for three weeks and thought I was done. Unfortunately, the bleeding started again a week later for a few days, then left for a week and came back for a few days.

I think it's probably impossible to predict what will happen -- maybe you are one of the lucky ones!

For me, my flow with different according to the size of the baby. My first child was 8 lbs 5 ozs, and I bled about the same for him as I did my 4th child, who was 8 lbs 10 ozs.. completely stopped at 4 weeks (was just spotting for the last week or two). My second child was 9, 1 and I bled for about 5 weeks. My third child was 9, 11 and I had the hardest recovery with her and bled for 6 weeks, and I now realize how much heavier I bled with her. I also had a difficult delivery with her as well (posterior, vacuum assisted).
