Need your opinion re: natural induction

I am not one for unneeded intervention, so I feel funny asking about this. I guess I'm looking to hear if you think natural induction is valid in my case. Be honest.

So dh is unemployed this week. That doesn't sound bad, but his next gig only pays monthly, so our next paycheck is at the end of November, even though he will be working.

I am due on Friday the 29th. I'm measuring 40+ cm, my cervix is very soft and about 80% effaced. Not dialated as of last week. I'm having normal BH ctx, some crampy ones, but generally things are stable. Baby hasn't dropped too much but is lower than before. I don't think her head is fully engaged.

My husband has this entire week off and won't have any unpaid days available in his new job which starts on the 1st. I feel like I really need to have the baby this week because I want him around and the timing would be too perfect. He won't get time like this with her if she isn't born this week and I won't get him around to help/support/love on if it's not this week.

I have an appointment tomorrow (Monday) and part of me wants to have them do as much as possible to get things going. Is that wrong? We've been doing all the home stuff you are supposed to do to get labor started--no herbals or Castor oil, though.

What do you think?

I would totally go for it. Are you opposed to castor oil? It can be very effective.

I would go for it too.

I'd go for it, too. Its not like you're trying to have the baby at 35 weeks or something. You're less than a week from your due date! Besides, don't they say with natural methods that it won't work unless the baby is ready? Good luck!

Jesse, I had just posted something similar a little while ago if you want to read some of that.Thoughts on natural induction I can totally understand where you are coming from. I think once you are 39+ wks that it's pretty safe. Personally I might put together a list of increasing interventions and try that way. (As in, don't want to try castor oil so I'll leave that for last.) That was one of my question when I had asked. I've always heard that with the natural interventions they don't work if you are ready (actually think of how many c-sections there are after medical inductions . . if your body isn't ready it frequently doesn't cooperate). I'd give it a try. It sounds like you are ready, healthy and have thought this through.

Good luck. Try to stay mellow through all this. It can be very difficult waiting to go into labor (speaking from experience here, not judgement; I'm getting really impatient). If it happens, it happens. Hopefully it will. We'll all keep positive labor thoughts heading your way.

Jesse,

We have almost the same situation going. Dh starts a new program on Thursday and we really can't afford for him to miss the work. I have been thinking about this too but I am going to try for the next couple of days just because it would be so much better for us.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Good Luck!

Oh, I understand where you are coming from. I agree with the theory that it will work if it is meant to (as in the baby is ready), so there doesn't seem to be any real harm in trying. Of course, castor oil does sound nasty...

Good luck. Hope it is going well.

One tip on the castor oil, my mw gave me last time, is after it has completely cleaned you out, you have to do a second dose, usually twelve hours or so later, so that it can continue to work. Good luck!
