Water breakage

So, with my son....
I lost my plug one day, the next day my water broke. But there was no active labor. I went a full 24 hours before doing anything about it.

I'm interested to know if anyone has anythoughts as to why ACTIVE labor wouldn't start for so long after water breaking???

I have lots of thoughts on this subject, since that happened to me. I think my/your body just wasn't quite ready to go into labor yet. No biggie. The problem lies in the fact that doctors never see natural childbirth anymore, and want things to happen within a certain timeframe and according to certain parameters. Nature doesn't always work that way.

edited to add some more of my thoughts on this subject:
I also think that part of the reason my labor didn't start was because of how terrified I am of doctors. I went to the hospital, and my brain told my body that I was in danger. Just like when that antelope is being chased by a predator, my body was not going to let my baby out in such circumstances, and my labor stalled out.

I am fully convinced that left alone, my DD would have been born a week later than she was.

My thoughts are sometimes the bag of water isn't strong enough and it can break before labor starts though the longer you have your water in tact the better. I've heard taking extra vit C while pg helps the bag stay stronger so that doesn't happen.

thin bag, head not deeply enguaged enought to stimulate labor, pelvic anatomy, sex, infection that causes ROM like mycoplasma and BV. prostaglandins have to increase and receptors have to be made in order for the uterus to respond and produce oxytocin. so when the bag broke then the uterus was stimulated and it took a while to respond, it is a dance and many things come into play, stress and fears can certainly be counter productive. Adding extra C wouldn't hurt, be sure you are eating enough lactobacillus foods so that your flora is healthy. Really you did start labor with in a normal time frame.
each labor is different and there is no real way of knowing if your labor will start this way again

My water bag broke a whole week before my labor started. Well, actually, it was more like a big leak, but still...Then, when I went into labor it was only like 2 hours long.

I think it was because like someone else said, I probably had an untreated UTI (I seem to have a neverending one) possible BV, and I *know* I didn't get enough protein, which can also lead to early rupture of the membranes.

But really, 24 hours seems entireley within the range of "normal". Whatever that is.
