June '05 Mamas ** The Dream Thread

I'm about a week late in starting this but better late than never, right?

Feel free to record any significant dreams that you might have during your pregnancy here. They could be dreams about the baby's gender, the birth circumstances, what the baby looks like, etc. Anything that would be fun to look back on to see if it was accurate.

I've found during my two previous pregnancies that my dreams were quite vivid and some were very accurate regarding gender and personality.

Have fun!

Around 5-1/2 weeks pregnant I had a very vivid dream about the baby's gender. During breakfast I said to dh, "I HAVE to tell you about my dream!" and he replied, "Ok, and then I have to tell you about mine!"

I dreamt that I was picking up toys around the house after the children were asleep and one of the toys was actually an ultrasound machine. Excitedly, I sat down and started scanning my tummy to try and see the baby. I couldn't get a read on anything and realized that I had to go a bit lower to see the baby...there it was! The baby was laying down and was like a very miniature version of a full-term baby and there it was: a penis! I was so excited that it was a boy, I started crying!

Upon hearing my dream my dh began his: He dreamed that we were all sitting at the dinner table and it was our normal chaotic scene..except there were three children there and the youngest was around 6 months old sitting in his highchair: a boy.

How weird is that??

We haven't had any gender dreams prior or since. I wonder if it was his way of telling us he is indeed a sweet little boy?

I had a dream a few weeks back when I was about five weeks along that I gave birth to little girl very early in my living room.. but she was perfectly fine other than being small. I, however, was freaking out, because I only had the baby things I've bought so far - which is like six onesies!! Everyone kept forgetting to support her head and it was very wobbly...

I was also worried that I wouldn't be able to breastfeed her because she'd been born so early but when I put her to my breast the milk flowed right out! That part was actually really neat

I've only had one other baby dream since, and it wasn't so vivid... but baby was a boy in that dream!!

I can't wait to find out which it'll be

A few weeks ago, I had a dream that took place in like, a huge hotel room? THere were lots of people there, but I decided to go to the bathroom b/c I thought I was in labor. I ran a bath and got in. A few minutes later a baby slid out. :LOL "She" looked up at me, and when she started blowing raspberries in the water I knew she was ready to get out of the water and breath on her own. I was so excited that she was a she. But later on I changed a diaper at home, and there was a penis. I can't decide if this dream was just a weird dream, or if maybe it is a girl, but I'm trying so hard not to get excited about a girl, that i changed it to a boy??
Around the same time, but a few days prior, my husband said he had a dream that we had a girl, she was close to 2 and had dark, curly hair. He never rememebers his dreams, and he isn't really excited about a girl b/c they scare him. LOL

Yikes. I had a dead baby dream last night, my first dream about the baby. Hopefully they won't continue, though I wasn't really bothered in my dream or when I woke up afterwards. Maybe the dream was related to the pictures of a dog giving birth I looked at in a book the day before.

I had a dream the other night where I was holding my baby and she had red hair. Jeff's mom had red hair so that would be quite fun to have this link.

i had a dream last night that my family was gathered together celebrating the winter holidays and my grandmother had brought a huge, brightly colored, beuatiful quilt/blanket for my newborn son

Obviously I am not seeing or thinking clearly today lol! I created a separate post for my dream because I could not for the life of me find this thread!

I'm copying it here.
Anyways, with my first pregnancy, I could only think of boys' names- didn't matter how hard I tried, I couldn't think of girls' names. I had a boy.
So this time around all I can think of is girls' names- I just *know* that this will be a girl. But last night I had a dream that they did an ultrasound and it was a boy! Which of course I'd be perfectly happy with- as long as the baby is healthy I don't care which gender, you know?
I'm just wondering if my gut is wrong and it's a boy. Hmm.

I had a weird/bad dream a few nights ago. I dreamt that my baby was born in November but somehow HE was 6 lbs 5 ozs. Impossible! I was crying and freaking out but they were reassuring me that he was ok and was big enough. It was really weird.

Then I had another dream recently that my 4 year old was at the bottom of a swimming pool just sitting there (we recently started swimming lessons with him) and I dove in and picked him up but when I got to the top all I was holding was a tiny fetus in my hands. It was really horrible.

Not liking these dreams :

for like a year i've been having dreams that we had a baby and i kept nursing, but i never made any milk, or the baby would never latch on right. since i've been pregnant i've had a couple dreams where i was nursing a baby with no problem. i wonder if it's related to me doubting my body's abilities through all of our fertility struggles, and now i am more confident?

i also keep having dreams about conflicts with my mom. grr. i get so frusterated with her.

Yikes, Pepper, that would really freak me out, too!! My MW was telling me yesterday about a client she had years ago that dreamt she had her baby and it was a hound dog puppy. She was really upset, and the old man down the street walked in and said, "Well, be glad. Those hounds mind much better than kids do." It cracked me up, but I know if I'd had the dream I would be really bothered by it. I just can't imagine getting a good latch with a puppy.

I hear you about the bad dreams!

Two nights ago I had a very, very strange dream. I gave birth to a fish, which then birthed two smaller fish out of her mouth. This was on the toilet at a restaurant, with a waitress in the room smoking a cigarette! I went back to my table, and the waitress called me back to the restroom. The toilet had overflowed, and a plastic baby doll floated to the top. I snatched the doll up and took her home, where she turned into a real baby and I was able to nurse her! Very disturbing! At least I came home with a baby after all that!

last night i had a dream that i had three children. My Zoom was there, and she was the oldest, and the younger two were both boys. This is all I remember....

thankfully no weird dreams about babies yet...I'm sure they are coming as I can still remember a few from when I was pregnant with dd.

Lats night I had a dream that I had had my baby, but it was at my mom's. I didn't know the sex, or when it happened. And it had been a couple of days, because I was worried that the baby wouldn't latch on. Well, it was a girl with blue eyes and brown hair. She latched on with no problem. My mom had her in sposies and I couldn't wait to put her in cloth. But I couldn't figure out how to fold the prefolds, and none of my wool was ready for her. But I figured it out and went on feeding her. It was a nice dream.

I feel so bad for the bad dreams out there! I've had those before, but not while pregnant. I'm sure I will, but I know they will freak me out too!

I've dreamt several times about the birth. It's weird because I can feel it but there's no pain; the baby kind of just slides right out into my hands and into my arms but I never really see the baby, just the baby coming out. Really just about the experience of the baby coming out into my own hands.
This isn't really anything that I particularly want in real life, but it would be neat. I wouldn't mind if the midwife caught the baby, I never thought "I want to pull my own baby out" kind of thing.
Last night I dreamt of my sister. She's also pregnant, due roughly a week and a few days after me. This is her first.
She had the baby, but hadn't seen the doctor yet so they went to the hospital and just HAD it. At 6 weeks along, but still a full term baby. Gotta love dreams.
So they didn't tell anyone until the day she was supposed to come home from the hospital and I find out from my mom. I"m like "Did she have a c-section?" (that's par for the course in my way of thinking. It's a sickness.). She didn't... So I go to the hospital and there she and her husband are, just fine, getting ready to go home. So I'm all "How is nursing going" and she basically told me that she hadn't done that yet. I get a little miffed and say "Your milk should probably come in today, but if you don't nurse the baby you won't be stimulated to make milk! Plus now you'll never be able to nurse because he's used to the bottle!!!" I kind of choked on the word "never" because in my dream I was thinking that yes you can still nurse a baby who's had a bottle, but it's pretty damn hard.
I think my dream was a way of telling me to back off of her. I just get so nervous knowing this is her first baby; I don't want her taken advantage of by an ob or even a midwife because we all know there are bad midwives too. Then of course I'm a big bf'ing advocate. It would kill me if she didn't nurse, but it's her prerogative. Like I tell most people, I won't lie, it would piss me off, but as long as you've made a good informed decision and taken a class and researched it, then go ahead and do what you want. I just don't like it when people use the usual excuses and don't know the whole story.
So in my dream I was all hurt that no one knew they had the baby, etc. It left me feeling a little yucky. It's hard to just let things go when you know so much.
Take care,
Karen

Well, mostly I've been dreaming about having sex with people :LOL (Last night it was Jordan Knight from New Kids on the Block; how the heck did HE get in my head?!) But, over the weekend, I had a dream that had (almost) nothing to do with sex, and everything to do with my kids. :LOL (The sex showed up on the tail end, with my husband for a change, woohoo! :LOL)

The first part of the dream is worth sharing, for giggle's sake... My neighbor's son skinned his knee trying to get down from the three foot concrete wall around my property. I carried him across the street to his house, where his mom, (Rosie O'Donnell...don't ask me how SHE got in my head, either), took him from me and we chatted a bit. I remember being absolutely terrified that she was going to get mad at me because her son skinned his knee at my house :LOL

Anyway, I went home and went upstairs to change the baby's diaper (who was a boy, btw), and his OLDER brother was bugging me, so I sent him out to play with Daddy.

Two boys??? I might shoot myself. :LOL

I've mostly been having sex dreams too, with other people but my husband. Very weird. No baby dreams...hope that doesn't mean anything! My sex drive has definitely been up the last few weeks, I'm 10 weeks pregnant.

I've been having lots of weird sex dreams, too... I seem to be going through the cast of That 70's Show. :LOL

But last night... man, WEIRD dream. I was 38 weeks pg and my OB (who I shouldn't be seeing at that point IRL) sent me to the hospital saying I needed some test or something. I don't know. I get there to this HUGE hospital room filled with people who are evidently my friends, including all the ladies of Sex and the City (which I've never watched BTW). So, they start doing an u/s which looked totally dif. than a real u/s, but the babe was still way up high, floating, and they start doing some weird thing to make him come down just to see if the cord will be in the way. Which, it is, so they do something else to make the baby move the cord, then he goes head down with his head tilted sideways, but that doesn't bother the doctors. Anyway, then they tell me to go lay in the other bed (there were 3 or 4 in my room). So I go, then ask the main doc why I"m there. She says, "Well, to have your baby of course." I start asking her all of these questions like, "Why? I'm still 2 weeks from my edd, baby is obviously not ready, I am NOT in labor, 60% of women go past there edd anyway," (not sure of actual numbers, that just came out in the dream.) She says, "Well, you've impressed me, but sorry, you're having your baby today." And I start freaking out b/c that means I'll get pit, broken water, then epi and csection... no doubt in my mind. I tell her I'm leaving and she gets super mean and says, "I'll slap paperwork on you that will make you have to stay here AND give your baby up." I said, "Oh, you mean I'll be leaving AMA? Big deal." She looks shocked that I've heard of it before. And she leaves and locks me in my room!!! So I'm FREAKING out b/c babe is NOT ready, I dont want a csection or my baby to have any problems. It's a blur after that, I was trying to find someone to let me sign the papers saying I knew what I was doing and I was leaving anyway. Then I woke up. Whew... that dream had me going for a while after, since I woke up from it at like 5am.

The other night I had a dream that I went to the doctor and he asked me if I wanted to know the sex of the baby. I thought it was too early (9 weeks). But he pulled the baby out painlessly, showed me it's genitalia and put it back inside. It was a boy. And my doctor is a woman. Weird...

Last night I had this really strange dream that I was in an orphanage ready to adopt a newborn baby. For some reason I only wanted a newborn and the only newborn there was this really beautiful little girl who had a head full of dark hair. She looked like me when I was a baby. None of my kids look like me, so I immediately felt a bond with her. Then I realized that I am pregnant and started thinking that it might be too hard for me to keep her so I had to put her back in the cradle and leave. I was sobbing in my dream.
